Stop bashing Richard

...so, you may not like his new stuff...or maybe it is not
quite what you were expecting...but still he has in the past
released awe inspiring stuff, he still has his moments. I
haven't heard this new track yet, I am waiting for this one
to hear the CD when it is out...the problem with being a
pioneer in most peoples eyes is that when innovation begins
to slow down people stop appreciating you for what you have
acheived.

Yeah he's great and everything, but I'm finding that I can
only listen to one or two of his tracks in a row and I have
to be in the right mood.

I have listened to everything he has done to death, and with
a music scene as rich as electronic music is, with new stuff
always available, I don't listen to him that often any more
myself. But every so often I will put a track on and the
feeling is unbelievable.

i concur. rich has contributed much to his genre of music,
and just because he makes a release you don't enjoy should
mean nothing - almost EVERY musician has put out something
subpar at one point or another. not everyone can please you
all the time. rich has contributed much to his genre, and i
think more people need to appreciate that. aphex, i FUCKING
love you.

He's probably going to go down as one of the most important
artists of our generation...
He's got that REAL musical prodigy thing about him - Very
rare.
I know it sounds like I've got my toungue firmly up RJ's
arse and I should be ashamed - But I honestly can't think of
anyone who's produced work as utterly original or musical as
that man.
Maybe Brian Dougans is in the same league of genius, he was
also writing music far ahead of his time in the 80's too.

if people don't like it they can go ahead and say that

I don't think anyone in their right mind would say that he
hasn't been important to electronic music. (double negative)

^foreal.

I think a lot of his new stuff is rubbish and his attitude
(or how he lets himself be percieved) doesn't help, but no
one in their right mind is gonna say he hasn't been
important to electronic music.
and he HAS made a lot of brilliant music

Really? I've actually never found a Brian Eno track I really
like too much - I always prefered Bill Laswell for that kind
of ambient stuff - I'd still rate RJ head and shoulders
above all of them though.

I think a lot of the bashing is because of people's
dissapointment with his last couple of releases. 26 Mixes
for Cash was nice but not exactly what people had hoped for
when it was first talked about. There were some glaring
omissions from that release. Smojphace was a more or less
pointless release. A remix that could easily have been put
on The Bug Ep or single or whatever and two noise tracks
that weren't exactly good examples of the genre.
Drukqs was an excellent release in my opinion and I still
listen to it regularly. I listen to all my Aphex a lot of
the time. I listen to Aphex practically everyday. I love his
stuff and he truly is a great musician that pushes the
boundaries. But I do feel pissed that he's not releasing
anything as good as before. I just feel that he's doing it
to piss off fans.

Ricahrd is a god amongst IDM producers. He has the skills to
conquer anytype of genre he wants to. I've been listening to
ALOT of Aphex Twin recently. There is no denying that he is
brilliant.

Has anyone ever thought that the noise tracks could have
been inspired from his tour with Merzbrow and Satanstornade.
Yeah maybe it's not what we expected but every artist has
had his dodgy moment.

I thinmk these noise tracks are sincere. So just wait
people, just wait.

i think that what makes his stuff so good, that he is so
diverse and i don't think i'd call a dodgy moment, it may
not be every ones cuppa tea, but he experiments and learns
and moves forward and in my opinion any artist should
experiment and push boundaries, its all part of the process
of creating yr art.

consider to be slightly iffy and they go into hysterics,

everyone is entitled to their own opinion and i think that
becuase his music is so diverse some of it just isn't going
to appeal to some people.

RDJ is idm, he is ambient, he is drum'n'bass, he is
drill'n'bass, he is piano, he is techno, he is the scary guy
with the evil grin who drives a tank, he is the cool guy who
doesn't care and takes it easy not considering his job as
work and releasing just what he wants, he is the
windowlicker pimp, he is the lazy and neglected guy who
never knows what day it is and forgot an mp3 player on a
plane with loads of untitled tracks, he is the prankster who
throws water baloons on ravers, he is the everything (or
almost : ) ).

my thoughts:

''smojphace = shit

My thoughts are a carbon copy of Woofer's. The Aphex Twins
have that special something that Autechre will never have.
An intangible. The Beatles had it, Kubrick had it, and by
fucking golly, Richard D. James has it.

I agree completely with what you've said.

I don't think we've seen the last of his genius yet... even
if he continues to release "average" music for a couple of
years, he'll pull another windowlicker/drukqs/ICBYD out of
the bag at some stage.

i wouldnt call death on him cos he released on record you
don't particulary enjoy - it 's a good record imo - the
noise tracks are good as well but don't diss it cos you
didn't enjoy it cos it's only a lo-profile single - no
press or anything
