Today i sat down and listened to SAW 85-92 and Incanabula (Spelling?).
My god, they are both amazing. SAW is better than Ae but it's still a great album. It just seems that they pushed their hardware to the maximum whereas now it's so much easier to do things like that with the un-parralell world of Laptop music.
I thorughly enjoyed it.

yes listening to older idm then listening to what they put out today, its fun to see how the different artists changed or challanged themselves and thier listeners

Indeed Thad. Like Autechre: the third track on thier first album with it's catchy melody. Also at one point there is even a piano sample in there. It's crazy.

I find the older stuff, like SAW85-92 and Lifeforms and things, does last me a lot longer than most of the newer IDM.
I think it's harder to push yourself these days cos there's no real technical limits to force the best out of you... That's what I've always thought anyway, sometimes you need the technical challenge to be original/unique.
