I HATE MTV

I'm sorry but i really need to post on this. The last time
I remember seeing any actual music on this station was back
in 96 - back when they played a bit of decent material like
Tool and Soundgarden. Now it's all reality TV and shows with
teen idols who will be forgotten in two or three years. Who
else shares my desire to go and rain sulphur on the
simpletons who run this miserable excuse for a music
station?

It has all gone a bit wank these days. Less and less music
and more and more crap shows. The only TV station I watch
now is some low budget effort that appears to be playing a
lot of British hip hop and garage (so bad that you can sit
and just piss yourself laughing)

Did you ever get Partyzone with Simone Angel over in the
states?

I don't remember ever hearing about such a show - and since
rave-oriented events are being illegalized in several areas,
i wouldn't be surprised if this recent war on ecstasy had to
do with its failure to arrive here.

Nah it was from way back when....at least 10 years ago...I
still have the section where they recommend new releases and
I Care Because You do was followed by one of the Terrordrome
releases...it was a really diverse program.

oh 10 years ago? no then, because i could actually stand MTV
then, and I don't remember seeing such a show, which is too
bad, because I would have welcomed it.

Anyone remember the X-Mix shows? Some of them where quite
good.

I remember when MTV2 first came on, it was the bastard child
of MTV. Nothing but music, and some of it VERY good. It was
a refreshing alternative to MTV's usual bullshit. Now MTV
has ruined it too. The only station I can stand watching now
for more than 5 minutes is MuchMusic, but I can't stand %75
of the music they play. Go figure.

Yeah it was MTV Europe back then - With Simone and (decent)
Party Zone and things... Those X-Mix videos were awesome - I
saw a site you could order them from the other day...
MTV these days makes me physically aggressive! Hearing those
same crap pop songs all the time affects me in a similar way
to watching documentaries on animal cruelty/fox hunting
etc...

I like music videos, and I used to like MTV. But now it's
nothing but the Real World and stupid retrospective shows
containing people talking endlessly about othe non-music
related shows that have aired in the past on MTV.

I find it annoying that I now have to pay extra on my cable
subscription to get MTV2 so that I can see what should be
shown on MTV1. Gah!

The 'golden age' of MTV here in the UK ended when MTV UK was
separated from MTV Europe.

MTV is shit these days, I think MTV itself pretty much gave
up showing music a few years ago and hived it off to various
sub-channels. MTV2 (or M2 as it was) started out great, then
replaced 90% of what was good with nu-metal, so I kinda gave
up there. The others aren't really worth mentioning.

Anyway, there is hope for music from an unlikely quarter -
Sky. They launched 3 music channels of their own last year.
Now, Scuzz and Flaunt are shit, but someone clearly showed
savvy when they created The Amp on channel 469. They, unlike
MTV, realised that nu-metal is *not* alternative music so
The Amp is blessedly shit-free. They may or may not play
music you like, but at least it's music you can
respect. Worth checking out.

This reminds me. Total Request Live (TRL). It's supposed to
be MTV's daily chart, their flagship show and even there
they can't play more than 90 seconds of a video. Wankers.

that's too bad - so they're ruined too, eh?

even radio sucks where I'm at - half of the stations in
Dallas/Fort Worth are controlled by ultra-terrible Clear
Channel - so of course lots of commercials and even worse
music.

We don't have any electronic station out here. Just an hour
of a piss-poor selection of dance music by a shit DJ on some
local independent station.
