I really hope this type of music doesn't go mainstream. This isn't because I take delight in saying the names of artists that people don't recognise, it's because anything that goes mainstream eventually gets ruined and becomes stale. Mainstream would mean that the "Major" labels start to get in on the act and releasing poor imitations or lite versions of people like Aphex. This has happened all over the place in the music industry and I'd hate it to happen to this music that I love. It's special to me and I don't want it ruined by money hungry bastards pimping. So the people in it now are money hungry, but at least they know that the scene is small enough to mean that they have to maintain a certain level of quality or else people won't buy the music. Mainstream would mean people just jumping on the bandwagon and New Look selling æ T-shirts. I dread the thought that that'd happen. I really do.

True dat
I mean look at Country-House. It was a bangin' scene and then the Rednex's came along and they fucking ruined it!
Seriously though, i agree with giginger.

oh right, like they don't make good rock or hip-hop music anymore after people caught onto it (in the '50s and '80s, respectively).
i have news for you: idm's been mainstream since the mid-90s. sure, maybe the the artists we listen to aren't household names, but all you have to do is go to a hollywood movie or tune into a top 40 station to hear idm's influence. and has it been ruined as a result of this? hell no. and people are still making good "trip-hop" music after that term became a joke nearly a decade ago. the whole idea of "once the underground catches on it's time to move on" is bogus!
"IMO"
