I have to say they really are a class act. They level of tunes and quality of notes really does surpase so much else. They really are top of the tree. No one really makes music as strong and as consistently as they do. And there music is always serious very little goofing around. If you want serious arse killer atmospheric good vibe trax they hit the spot.

Boards of Canada are excellent. They have created a totally unique sound, using snippets of old classical elements, Tv programs, childlike imagery, Ice cream vans, sounds of animals and trees, the willowing wisp of a wind that makes up the synths. They make beautiful timeless music. And I say this without any pretension at all. This is really what i think.

BOC are almost God-like. musically.
The best music (for me) has always been the stuff that you can listen too in the most troubling, sick, awful times and not want to turn it off. Most afx,ae,µ-ziq,sqpusher I cant stand when I'm in a picky mood, but BOC always outlasts them all. So does Gridlock's album Trace. I'm so confusing when I write... I 'm going to get high now.

They seem to have that power to mutate to fit whatever mood you are in, that why i have been listening to them so much recently.

They've been a shining beacon of musical satisfaction for me for years. Somehow, they produce great music without SOUNDING produced...
Future "IDM" artists would do well to learn their lessons...

I love them... they're one of my favorite groups, and them and Autechre are definitely my two favorite electronic groups...

actually they're probably better then autechre imo, cause I can always listen to BoC and enjoy it... Autechre I usually have to be in a certain mood for a lot of their stuff...

all their tunes are really top quality, but it seems like they have been doing the same things for so long that i have lost a little respect for them.
to me it seems like if you rated their albums or tracks on a scale from 0 to 10 and aranged them in a line it would be like:
9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9
really consistant quality, and with other artist like afx or autechre the number would be really scattered about and probably just a little lower on average, but every so often you get a 10 that is just amazing:
8 7 9 7 7 8 6 10 9 8
haha that probably made absolutely no sense at all! well thats just how i see it or something.

Richie J takes a lot of chances and shoots for the moon a lot, so he's gonna get more misses... BOC, they set out to do pretty much the same thing every album. But yeah, they're pretty consistent... no Smojphaces in their catalog, to be sure.
I prefer AFX and AE in terms of the ''Big 4'' or 5 or 6 or whatever we're up to now. We giveth and we taketh away.
