Its now almost been 2 years since the release of GEOGADDI,
....and now...whats up with BoC !? How long are we gonna
have to wait...or is it to early to ask for a new Album.....

weren't they meant to release one 12months after Geogaddi?
mmm..

Gee, it's almost as if they've run out of ideas.

Is this normal with IDM artists...I'm not that knowledgable
about such things. But normally artists release something
every year don't they?

look at aphex. Nothing "new" for a while now. It was a
long time between windowlocker and drukqs. There was 2
remixes by afx, but even that was long after windowlicker.

The whole 'surrounded by a shroud of mystery and silence'
taken up by all these major artists like BoC and Twin is
getting rather tiresome, isn't it?

You can only make a song with children and flutes so many
times until it becomes repetitive. I'm just [kid]ding.
Really, I love BOC.

be patient you techno freqs, one day you'll ride down town
an score a ganj and a shinny new BOC cd. Give it a heavy
listen and complain because its 60 minutes of playground
samples and reverb.

I don't care if the new BOC is original or not. I just like
all their music whether its old, new or whatever. BOC are
like Ozrics (well not really) but basically they have a
sound which works and they just keep that same sound which I
think is good. I kinda think its different and who really
wants BOC to change I mean aren't they good as they are? I
don't know whats the board think?

i was thinking about the inconsistent output of electronic
musicians and how because of this, i'll often research other
similar sounding electronic musicians and begin picking up
their albums as well because there are no current albums to
take my money and distract me.

there is nothing worse then waiting for an album, and the
buying it and listening and it being crap!

When you work in the territory of silver ponds things take
time. Why rush? Savour the wait like you savour a boc song.

Sometimes though, you can't help feel disapointed having
waited so long, when the end result doesn't live up to your
expectations. Not that I'm saying this will be the
case....but it can happen.

their sound is nice, but i didn't like so many of the
melodies on geogaddi as i did on mhtrtc.

so i hope their new one is just 'beautiful', and that it has
atmosphere.

the last thing they released was the Boom Bip Remix and it
was pretty god damn great and didn't sound too cliched, so I
don't think theyre running out of ideas or creativity.

"who really wants BOC to change I mean aren't they good
as they are? I don't know whats the board think?"

> yeah, they're quite good as they are... but i don't see
the purpose of having new releases if it all sounds the
same. might as well just relisten to the older ones, no?
(unless you know them all totally by heart maybe, i think
it's the case...)

if a new BoC release was out now, i wouldn't care about it
at all unless it was different. i already didn't care much
about Draft 7.30 and i don't have it for the reason it's
just "normal" Ae, i already have lots of Ae and i don't see
the point of having a new one which would sound like the
others... there were lots of other great artists out there
that deserved more attention.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-08-17 09:50 [#00825174]

I just like a good tune and good atmosphere from a track. A
track can be quite repetative but as long as its got a good
groove, tune, melody and atmosphere thats fine. I wouldn't
mind new U-Ziq or Squarepusher or Aphex that sounded like
old stuff. Its all good. It might be a bit dissappointing
but ain't anyone else doing any better so why would I
complain.

offline uzim on 2003-08-17 10:03 [#00825187]

i like some very long and not evolving a lot tracks
(see for example, Salt Marie Celeste by Nurse With Wound, or
Queens Of The Circulating Library by Coil...). and some
albums have tracks which all sound quite the same but which
i still like.

but differences from track to track are another thing than
from album to album.

and, well, i have something against Boards Of Canada because
they are as praised and famous as Aphex Twin Autechre etc.
and i don't think they deserve it. =P

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2003-08-17 10:48 [#00825235]

I really don't care much about albums sounding different...
my main thing is melody and stuff... and how it makes me
feel ya know... if the music sounds good, that's all that
matters to me really... it's nice obviously if a group
changes their style a bit, but it's not required by me...
especially if they already have a style as nice as Boards of
Canada...

i don't think it makes sense to criticize boc because they
do not change their "sound" significantly. the songs are
different, the music is different, there is plenty of
stylistic variation, even if the "sound" is the same. it's
like criticizing bob marley for making another reggae album.
let boc be boc.

Aaron Funk.

Geogaddi kind of let me down, actually... haven't listened

reason.
