do you believe, even slightly, and whether you'd like to admit it or not, that DVD movie sales are taking away from CD music sales? the RIAA has been saying so, as have some (possibly corporate-influenced/funded) critics and analysts.
personally i'd agree to a small difference in sales, because sometimes DVD's are priced as cheap or cheaper than a CD you want, but it's really apples and oranges. when you're in the mood for slayer, gone with the wind will hardly do.

I have far too many cds as it is, I'm building a hardcore DVD collection.
I agree with you though, it's probably a small difference because you can get great films on dvd for a tenner now, but like you said if you need a new album then you ain't gonna buy a movie.

i never understood buying movies. I mean, my roomates have hundreds of DVDs each, and they watch one a week MAX.
why not pay the $3 for a rental instead of the $15 for the SUPER SPECIAL EDITION that you only watch once?
The replay value of DVDs packed with extras is limited, just based on time consumption alone.
Seems like a waste of money to me.

i buy more cds then dvd, but there are the essential dvds one needs, and if i have it already on vhs, its probably good enough, unless if tons of xtras are released
So when will the Star Wars IV, V and VI be released on dvd ? im getting them all.

I'm not much into movies at all. music's what moves me. I will catch a movie I dig every so often on ifc or something but I don't have a desire to watch it multiple times. unlike simpsons episodes. I'll probably eventually get every season they release.

yeah, it's like comparing apples and oranges... I'm more a music lover then movie lover, so I buy music... if I wanted a movie I'd buy it... if I want a cd I'd buy it... but I guess really, with me, music wins out... but it's still apples and oranges...

I have been buying more dvd's and less cd's, so in my case they might be right.
does this mean the RIAA is going to stop me buying dvd's?
ah shucks..

Most of my money goes to videogames... and I'm still pissed that Konami put Contra: Shattered Soldier on a CD rather than DVD.

i buy a lot of BOTH, but more recently probably DVD's only because you can get such DEALS on them 2 for $20 that you can't pass it up.
just a couple days ago i got a steal due to mislabeling of a CD (DJ Shadow's Private Press Special Edition) it shoulda been 29.99, i got it for 18.99 PLUS i had a coupon for buy one CD, get another at 1/2 price so i picked up a DJ CRUSH cd for 18.99, got both for $30 bucks.....so i think i got a good deal.
i just wish they had deals on CD's more often. if you don't buy a CD the first week, you'll be paying 3-6 dollars or MORE till the end of time....

dj krush is wicked! good choice
they don't have good sales on cd's anymore cos they're punishing the consumer for music piracy.. it's really backwards thinking because a lot of the so-called pirates stopped buying cd's due to escalating prices (versus the actual cost of manufacturing a cd, which is on the decline). so you'd think they'd lure these people in by offering reasonable sales for cd's, but nope. punish the loyal music fan instead of making ammends for a problem for which they have themselves to blame.

Yeah, only movies that I know I'll watch over and over again. For example, the movie Elizabeth, between my fiancee and I we've more than made up for the cost of rentals.
