 | From today's Popbitch:
"Summer in the cinema might have been bland and dull, but
films are set to get weirder. The remake of Willy Wonka and
the Chocolate looks like it will have Johnny Depp as Wonka,
with a soundtrack by Aphex Twin."

 | cool. johnny depp + tim burton = cant go wrong (i hope).
i havent seen this movie in ages, an in order to see it
again i'd probably have to order it on dvd, so i dont mind a
 remake at all.

although i'd rather see that 'alice' movie (based on the
twisted, dark pc game) that was rumored to be in the
 making.

 anyone got news on that?

 | The original only has Gene Wilder and the Oompas going for it, the rest of it's pretty shit.

The problem with re-making this movie is that the original
is so well known - in both book and film form - Burton will
probably have to tinker with it a lot to make it interesting
for a wide audience. This means it'll turn out at the end
that Willy Wonka's chocolate factory is in fact Eden, which
was millions of years ago vacated by monkeys which left to
populate the entire planet and evolved into people. Depp's
Wonka will rip off his prosthetic mask and be revealed as
King Kong, which in a franchise crossover will then set up
the remake by Peter Jackson (nobody will think it odd that
Johnny Depp is 70 foot tall throughout the movie).

mean what can you add that wouldn't have been conceivable at

movie remakes are really boring.. save your ideas for

 | Charlie & The Chocolate Factory has *not* started shooting. Indeed, shooting isn't due to being until next year. There's
no cast as yet and Burton is currently still working on 'Big
 Fish".

Oh yeah, IMDb is listing Danny Elfman as doing the score,
which is probably far more likely than Aphex Twin, but given
the film's still in pre-production that could change.
