Richard D. Wonka?

From today's Popbitch:

"Summer in the cinema might have been bland and dull, but
films are set to get weirder. The remake of Willy Wonka and
the Chocolate looks like it will have Johnny Depp as Wonka,
with a soundtrack by Aphex Twin."

That sounds Quality, Wonka was tripped out to begin with. I
wonder who will play grandpa Joe.

For those who don't know, this is being directed by Tim
Burton.

Did anyone see the 'hilarious' photoshoot from the remake of
Windowlicker in this month's Q*? What they'll do to fill a
page in their magazine amazes me sometimes.

* Disclaimer: not my copy of Q.

I wouldn't be surprised, I was watching UK Gold last night
and there was an advert for the Carry On films with the 808
state remix playing in the background

Nicholas Cage was up for the part last time I heard..... but

film theres no need for a remake.

cool. johnny depp + tim burton = cant go wrong (i hope).

i havent seen this movie in ages, an in order to see it
again i'd probably have to order it on dvd, so i dont mind a
remake at all.

although i'd rather see that 'alice' movie (based on the
twisted, dark pc game) that was rumored to be in the
making.

anyone got news on that?

The original only has Gene Wilder and the Oompas going for
it, the rest of it's pretty shit.

The problem with re-making this movie is that the original
is so well known - in both book and film form - Burton will
probably have to tinker with it a lot to make it interesting
for a wide audience. This means it'll turn out at the end
that Willy Wonka's chocolate factory is in fact Eden, which
was millions of years ago vacated by monkeys which left to
populate the entire planet and evolved into people. Depp's
Wonka will rip off his prosthetic mask and be revealed as
King Kong, which in a franchise crossover will then set up
the remake by Peter Jackson (nobody will think it odd that
Johnny Depp is 70 foot tall throughout the movie).

i've read many rumors that manson was slated to play as
wonka. (manson debunked them as a mis-interpretation of a
statmement he said about wonka being an infulence).

depp and burton is the best formulae for fantasy film, but i
dont think anything they've done together will be as good as
edward scissorhands.

but how cool would it be if aphex realy did do the
soundtrack. i suspect he is a realy big fan of the
movie.....(saw1 - we ar the music makers)

We're talking Tim Burton here, whatever he comes up with
will be radically different to the original, not an attempt
to better it.

why remake films that are only 40 or less years old (psycho,
texas chainsaw massacre, gone in 60 seconds, now this).. i
mean what can you add that wouldn't have been conceivable at
the time?

movie remakes are really boring.. save your ideas for
something original

btw aphex twin will score this movie like he scored the
matrix reloaded and the forthcoming neuromancer, if you get
my meaning

He will score it by allowing someone else to score it and
letting them get paid for it?

I heard good ole Mr. Walken was gonna be in on this movie
too. And even further back, I heard Marilyn Manson would be
playing Wonka.

I know it's a remake and all, but hell, with all these crazy
people in it, it's gonna be one hell of a fucked up film.

while their at it, they might as well make
"willy wonka and the glass elevator" or whatever it's
called, and all of roald dahl's stories into movies, using a
different idm artist to score each film.

ohhhhhhhhh i get it, you're trying to say aphex won't score
it because all of the other rumors ended up being totally
false or ended up being merely ideas that were considered?
gotcha.

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory has *not* started shooting.
Indeed, shooting isn't due to being until next year. There's
no cast as yet and Burton is currently still working on 'Big
Fish".

Oh yeah, IMDb is listing Danny Elfman as doing the score,
which is probably far more likely than Aphex Twin, but given
the film's still in pre-production that could change.
