phlaps.... if you put 16 year olds on mod status you can be
sure they are gonna use their powers for fun....

its a fun messageboard, nothing more... if you dont like it,
stay here.

agreed, but then that kind of flies in the face with what
marlowe said about no censorshiop and all being welcomed.
really there is heavy censorship and only some are welcomed
(those who'll put up with the kiddies having their way with
them).

that MB is like that movie where the kids live in an island
and they start a cruel society... you know which one?

lord of the flies. one of my few messages on that board was
to say "it's nice to see the lunatics are running the
asylum" (after one of my posts was edited). that description
is totally right.

no way, I've moderated several forums and I've never used my
'powers' in a bad way.

titsworth: everyone is welcome it's just that not everyone
likes to post random bullshit and porn. If you come there to
discuss serious stuff you're one of the few. That doens't
mean you're not welcome, it means that kneejerk is just not
the right place for you.

and about that cocky remark about people with disfunctional
brains.. just dont visit the site then right.. theres plenty
of things that need your toughtfull comments here.

I think it was a good Idea... It gives people a choice of
what they want to do.

As far as peoples opinions of what mods should be
responsible for, issues surely should be taken up with the
webmaster or maybe in a special topic on the board itself.
Afterall, what they say goes.

and nothing. I've summed up the board. Any editing is done
purely for comical effect and not to be mean or however you
see it. Anything that's said that's deemed harsh is more
than likely a joke. Not always I agree but most of the time
it is. People are more than likely just seeing how far they
can push what they can say and do. They've found that
there's no limits (as such) and they've resorted to just
mucking around. It's an online pub really. A nice pub that
serves good drinks. It's the Cheers bar of the internet.....

I suggest just truncating it - the first few minutes (three,
I THINK - before the beat anyway) sounded quite eno-esque.
Many of his ambient tracks aren't very long. I would keep
that section. You could either add things to it and leave it
that long, or develop it/move in a new direction kind of
thing.

ok, but whereas myself and others are actually making
constructive criticism, whether it's universally agreed on
or not, all you're saying is who cares. obviously people do
care, and if it's not worth discussing, why do you have to
SAY that (more than once, no less), why wouldn't people
realize that themselves? a pet peeve of mine is people who
post in topics just to say "i don't know" or "i have no
opinion." what a waste of everyone's time.

Let's get some perspective here, travis. Demonize Discourse?
We're talking about some little messageboard in the middle
of nowheresville, Internet-Land. There's not much to
discuss. It's pretty anarchic and nonsensical there most of
the time (from what I gather). It's truly a shame some
people have edited your posts - I don't condone it myself.
But it's being taken too seriously.

Saying 'I don't know' isn't to be deemed a waste of time. If
someone doesn't know, they've every right to say so -
because it indicates they may be open to discussion.

In real life, if only more Politicians would say 'I don't
know' rather than try to bluff their way out of situations,
it would be much better.

open dialogue and discourse should be encouraged for
anything, anytime, anywhere. people have the choice to not
participate if they're uninterested. you of all people
should agree with that.

Yes - but WHAT is there to discuss? This is like some Kafka
story. You brought up some issues you had, I noted them,
opened the floor to any Moderators of my forum who may have
edited/deleted any of your posts.

Then other people said the forum was juvenile -- yep, so
what, it's juvenile. . . hardly a topic for deep discussion
that one.

It really does boil down to :

a) I'm sorry that someone edited your posts - I didn't
condone it, and I wasn't aware of it until you told me, so
thank-you for telling me.

b) It's quite juvenile there - understandably, it's not to
everyone's taste.

c) There was some inter-board flamings going on - I appealed
for less vitriol, and more fun. I've heard that there isn't
flaming going on there - it lasted about half a day, and
hopefully has stopped.
