Labyrinth vs. Dark Crystal

now.. I've had huge discussions with friends of mine about
whether the film "Labyrinth" or "The Dark Crystal" is
better.

I personally go for "The Dark Crystal" - yes, it has less to
no humour, yes, it is slow in places, yes, it lacks emotion,
yes, the main character Jen is literally a puppet, but still
the world it depicts convinces me so, oh so much more than
"Labyrinth".

and David Bowie is crap in "Labyrinth".

You had a huge discussion? I dunno whether to laugh or feel
pity.

I have seen neither film :D!

The Dark Crystal is classic fantasy, full of cinema magic
and moody storylines and is just great. Labyrith is shite.

It is a difficult decision, but of the two I like "the dark
crystal" a bit more. If you took the idea of killing fairies
with insecticide out of labrynth and put it into the dark
crystal instead, the latter would win by a landslide.
However if you include the movie "the neverending story"
among the 3 choices, it wins imo because of the most evil
creature in the universe, gmork. I think gmork is god.

well, that's the thing.

The Dark Crystal is part of my childhood - so that already
makes it special. although I bought it on dvd recently and
still think it's great.

Dark Crystal ! I don't even remember anything about
Labyrinth...

NO!

Limahl killed every chance of that film ever being taken
into the equation..

i really liked the Dark Crystal when it first came out. but
i have watched both movies more recently and Labyrinth
better stood the test of time for my taste. Dark Crystal is
more inventive visually i think but it is pretty boring
other than that. Labyrinth is ultimately more entertaining.

There is no way that Labyrinth could ever beat the Dark
Crystal. Like qrter it's part of my childhood, so there's a
nostalgia factor, but it's also got that sinister brooding
sort of feeling that's totally apart from that. It's hard to
descibe.
The Dark Crystal is proper cinema, whereas Labyrinth is a
kiddies movies.

The Neveredning Story was a great story idea, and I have
good memories of it, even the theme music. But that
dragon just looked shit, even back then.

But think of Morla, the giant turtle... or the drama of
Artax dying in the swamps of sadness *sniff* and
especially gmork.... gmork would rip off maralyn
manson's head. On a side note I'm thinking about buying his
autobiography. I am interested in his psychology. On another
sidenote, the most "autechre" book I've read recently was
"the meme machine" by susan blackmore, mostly due to the
last couple of chapters where she convinced me that we don't
have "selves", other than a sort of constantly accumulating
past tense story. She thinks there's just the evolutionary
algorithms playing out with no one watching. That's an
autechre concept right there.

They are both good. I've seen Labyrinth many more times
though. The little fox like guy who rides the dog is pretty
cool, as is Ludo

The Neverending Story is sweet too... and also, the
soundtrack is amazing... I'd be a happy person if I could
have the soundtrack on cd!!

Labyrinth definetaly is not my favorite though. Neverending
Story was kick ass though. Can you buy it on DVD?

Labyrinth get's my vote as i grew up watching it. David
Bowie is great in that film, i don't care what anyone else
says about him. I first saw Dark Crystal when i was a bit
older so there was less 'magic' there for me.

he isn't great in that film.

he isn't even the Goblinking.

he's David Bowie.

really, that's the problem with Bowie acting in films - it
always fails because in the end he is just playing David
Bowie.

Still haven't seen the Dark Crystal. I don't like Labyrinth
because of Jennifer Connolly, what an annoying bitch she is
in that movie. She has since made up for it by becoming
smart as fuck and getting her baps out.

jennifer connolly is my sex whore [in my mind]. Maybe not in
labyrinth, more requiem for a dream. Still, that puts
labyrinth first for me. Didnt the bird in the dark crystal
look EXACTLY like zoe ball? I think yes.

a singer!)

But Dark Crystal is quality... scared the shit out of me
when I was younger. And those sealion faced walker things
are cool
