well, not exactly. i was still in training, i wasn't even
on payroll yet. turns out i would have had to pay 140
something dollars for a demo set - and without a demo set, i
can't make money. but i can't make money without a job -- so
poo. i call my would-be boss, and i try to be as civil as
possible, and i tell him the situation. i don't have anyone
to loan me this money.

then he says:
"well, i didn't know you were a quitter, gus."

and of course, that enraged me, so i kindly thanked for the
opportunity, and sent my condolences. you guys were right.
screw direct sales.

there was something about that guy that seemed very soulless
from the moment i met him. oh well. i guess the powers that
be are trying to make a point to me:

That i don't belong in such asinine direct sales
businesses.

Well at least i gained something out of it: i learned quite
a bit about marketing, and plus i know a lot about knives
now.

Classic pyramid scheme. Ever heard of Amway?

You should have given him a demo with some of those knives.

Fuck. My wife's cousins used to be involved with Amway and I
was dreading having to sit through one of their pitches but
it turns out they got distracted by other things - raising
dogs and children, in that order of priority.

Only the top guys/gals make the money... As fleetmouse said:
Pyramid scheme, and it's illegal here in Sweden - but they
find ways around it...
