jesus, this guy is amazing... his Texturology album blows
my mind... if anyone else loves that Artificial Intelligence
sound, you gotta get into this guy...

I've heard his track on the AI2 compilation - Utuba? - and I
think he does the remix of the first track by Mark Franklin.
They're both excellent. But I thought that was all he'd
made. When did Texturology come out, then? And what do you
think of AI 2 overall? It's one of my 3 or 4 favourite
albums.

i love ai2... beaumont hannant has released many albums and
ep's from the early 90s... the last thing he appeared to
release was in about 97...

Are you named, teapot, after the AFX track on AI2, 'My
Teapot'? Although that track is easily the worst track on
the LP.

Beaumont Hannant totally rules.. both the Texturology albums
(there are two differnt ones as I am sure you realise) are
incredible. Also for something a bit different sculptured is
really good too

To answer the question above, both the Texturology albums
came out in 1994 I think - in my opinion the best year for
music in my lifetime, and the year when I first started
listening to afx.

Love the work he's done with Lida Husik! In fact, I
discovered Lida Husik through on of Hannant's records, but I
cant remember the name of it... She sings on three of the
tracks, amongst them, the opening track...

Yes, sculptured! Have you heard Lida Husik's'Green blue
fire' and 'Faith in space'? I think Hannant moe or less
produced 'GBF', and he contributed heavily to 'Faith in
space', wich is a fantastic album indeed. Green Blue Fire is
not Lida's best album, but it's nice...

Her best album? 'Fly Stereophonic'!

Agency, who had a track on AI2 alongside Hannant?

They are still around...

He has been working alongside Biosphere recently. Two
albums...Polar Frequencies....and Birmingham something....

But that's years ago now...

I wonder what they're up to these days...

I heard 'Freefloater' the other day, it still a brilliant
album!

What is Biosphere's newer stuff like? I have 'Microgravity',
which I think is his first Biosphere LP (after Bleep?), but
I only liked 2 or 3 tracks on it. He also did a good track
called 'The Third Planet'. Is his stuff since Micro any
good?

His newer work is VERY VERY bassy deep ambient. Not at all
like Microgravity or Patashnik. Infact, if u like
Microgravity give Patashnik a listen. It is just as
good...if not better.

offline Krendo from Leicester (United Kingdom) on 2003-08-01 05:36 [#00803531]

I read a review once that put Microgravity and Patashnik on
a par with anything else in electronic music. But I thought
only 1,3 and the last track on Micro were any good. I must
be missing something. Have you heard his releases as Bleep,
which he recorded before becoming Biosphere?

Microgravity and Patashnik would both be in my top 10
favourite ever records..

Never heard bleep but would really like to.. what does it
sound like?

I have a Bleep 12" titled the Launchpad... I guess it's a
bit dated now...

Holy shit! Beaumont Hannant! I totally forgot about that
dude! I'm gonna rush home and dig out all my old discs...
when last did he do anything new?

I still remember my fave track being called something like
Symphony5... I truly forgot him!

Yeh, I own nothing by Bleep, but I heard it was very poor.
Well, that's what the Icelandic Biosphere guy said. Modest
chap.

On a similar old skool electronica tip.... does anyone
remember Reload's a collection of short stories? That was
also fuckin' classic... another one I forgot about.... pity
they (Global Communication) never topped it!

Also, Cherry Bombs Electronics for dogs album was good....
Richard Brown is a top producer, he often collaborated and
engineered shit for Beaumont... and he was half of RAC...
which was sick sick shit as well.

Hey, what's on that Reload Short Stories LP? I have their
compilation album, 'The Theory of Evolution' on Warp, which
has some Reload and Link & E621 stuff. Do you have this?
It's really good in places.

offline clone from Johannesburg (South Africa) on 2003-08-01 06:23 [#00803589]

Yeah, theres some good stuff on that comp.... but it's not
anywhere near as good as Collection of short stories....
it's a very good album, and comes with a little book that
you read with the music. It works brilliantly, 'cos the text
somehow synchs up with the music when you read it.

go buy it

Is any of the Short Story stuff on 'Theory...', cos I
thought the Reload stuff on that wasn't that good. I prefer
their stuff as Link, and their amazing 76:14 LP.

Do you know what happened to these guys? What was their last
release? Last I heard was as Jedi Knights on Clear.

offline clone from Johannesburg (South Africa) on 2003-08-01 06:32 [#00803613]

The Reload stuff on the compilation doesn't even compare...
there's a lot of crap on that compilation.

Not sure what they're up to now... I think they split and
are still doing stuff in a solo capacity.

Another Global Com album thats fuckin' awesome is a remix
collection they did for a crap indy rock band called
Chapterhouse.

Not sure how you'd get hold of it though, 'cos it was a
limited edition disc that came with the Chapterhouse Album.

I can't remember what it was called... the remixes were
called Bloodmusic

Isn't one of the dudes Wishmountain? or was that one of
Herberts pseudonyms? can't remember

Yeh, Wish Mountain Plays was Herbert's first project, I
think. I saw him go on Big Breakfast (an English morning TV
prog) and play a track made entirely from the sound of
spoons.

I heard about a Glob Com remix LP, but I can't remember what
it was called. It had that Chapterhouse song, and a Grid
remix, and some other stuff. I forgot to buy it when it was
in my local shop, and now it's vanished. Typical.

Thought so... one of the Reload guys started making house...
I can't remember under what name though.

I lost interest in them years ago, 'cos nothing was as good
as Collection of short stories.

Didn't one of them go off to do stuff under the name Amba?
Tom Middleton I think.

Last I heard from either of them was remixes on a Lamb EP. A
bit crappy they were.

...Short Stories is ace though.

Sounds familiar... those Lamb mixes were quite weak.

Autechre's Lamb remix however, was quite something!

Yeh, I saw Tom Middleton's face on the front of a House Mix
Volume 3 type album. It looked very Pete Tongish, and I
thought it was rather a fall from grace.

Biosphere is not Icelandic, but Norwegian! Bleep is rather
simple housy stuff, but it reveals greater things to come,
especially some of the sounds used on the 12" I have. I
think he uses some of the same modules on the Biosphere
records that he used on Bleep...

RAC still blows my mind! I simply adore the Tangents e.p. It
takes off like nothing else!
