 | Serj Tankian of System of a Down, Lou Reed, Dan the Automator, the X-ecutioners and El-P are among the artists
contributing tracks to Bird Up: The Charlie Parker Remix
Project, due October 21. Tankian remixed the jazz
legend's "Bird of Paradise," with new lyrics and
 vocals.

 | There's something fucking depressing about this endless remix tsunami. Don't people have good enough intestines to
fully digest their influences anymore, instead of shitting
them out in big recognizable chunks?

 | i don't know what you mean. frankly i enjoy a new spin on an old classic. i don't think anyone could argue that people
like el-p, automator, and the x-ecutioners aren't very
 creative in their own right.

 from one of those guys?

 | El-P - Deep Space 9mm X-Ecutioners feat. M.O.P. - Let It Bang
Automator - anything (Deltron 3030, Handsome Boy Modeling
School, Dr. Octagon, Lovage, solo, Gorillaz...)

but i think a lot of people can appreciate both the original
and a new and creative take on that classic... madlib has
the right idea with his blue note-funded remix excavation of
blue note's classic jazz vaults, and the phil ranelin remix
album (remixed by electronic and hip-hop artists) on hefty
 records was similarly bangking

 | i think this is a good idea, cause most mainstream music fans/fools probably don't have a clue to who charlie parker
.. so i think this is a chance to maybe wake some people up
a tad. i personnally look forward to the x-ecutioners remix

 | Ah well now, I've heard Gorillaz and Lovage before, didn't blow me away. Neither did that El-P. The X-ecutioners now,
that's tasty. They had their first album at EMusic. I'll be
keeping an eye out for that let it bang track. Damn now you
got me curious how they'll cook that bird.

 | all you have to do is listen to Phil Ranelin: The Remixes and bill laswell's Phantalaasa [sp?]
miles davis remix project to know this could be really
awesome. everyone already listed is very talented and that's
only a few of the people involved in this project. throw in
madlib and prefuse 73 and we've really got something!

 | Well, the Verve Remixed album was all quality reworkings. It can be bad or it can be good but I think it can build to a
 trend.

 | it's really good. all long and incredibly dark dub remixes and reworkings, a lot of it barely resembling the original.
critically acclaimed. beware though there is the original,
which is all laswell, and a followup, which has 1 or 2
laswell and then some new miles remixes by others such as dj
spooky. get the laswell original, it's the best.
