Old Richard or New Richard?

Ophecks on 2001-11-01 16:16 [#00047761]

Which is better... pre ICBYDo Aphex Twin, or the more recent
stuff? I got into him for the drill and bass, etc stuff from
the RDJ, but I'm starting to prefer the SAWs and Caustic
Window stuff from days of old. Incredible either way, of
course.
Still adjusting to Drukqs. The songs are starting to get
easier to follow, I didn't like Omigaya Swich or whatever
until about an hour ago!

I like his musik because it is so diverse (old and new
stuff). Depends more on my mood what I like best and that
can change during the day. SAW I and II to chill out, the
fast shit to get excited and the funky shit to jump and
dance. He's got the full spectrum of sounds.

i like baby richard....

but seriously, both the old and new have different strong
points, and weaknesses.
early EARLY stuff was adrenaline pumping, but annoying.
middle stuff was laid back but minimalistic. new stuff is
spastic and GREAT, but not as melodic.

Bogus on 2001-11-01 17:23 [#00047767]

both are cool.. but i listen the newest stuff the most.
except at night when i'm going to sleep i put saw 1 or 2. or
surfing o nsinewaves or some shit like that

I like ye olde richard.

The SAWs and ICBYD are great, as well as stuff like surfing
on sine waves. The are the most passive and aggressive
styles i have ever seen in anyone.

By jove!

RDJ Album's songs are too short, and his older one's can get
too long.
STRIKE A BALANCE, YOU TWAT.

well from what I've heard, I like his older stuff better...
although, the new stuff is great, stuff like the RDJ album,
and come to daddy are way too short... plus, I just think
ICBYD is absolutely brilliant... the perfect mix of mellow,
aggressive and a mix of the two...

ICBYD is by far the greatest album. DrukQs just doesn't do
it. the early, early stuff was great fun but not very well
done, but who cares they Rock on 11.

luke on 2001-11-02 02:39 [#00047838]

omjigga switch/ hard to get into because of the intro - i
reckon anyway .. cool song nonetheless tho

rich: it is mood oriented, but later is definetly more
cerebral, which is good if you want something of that nature
- quite

borix on 2001-11-02 09:36 [#00047911]

ICBYD is (my opinion) the least intresting record of AT.

MossPoppet on 2001-11-02 09:40 [#00047912]

new...alot of his old stuff is boring as hell...maybe if
you're into techno its good, but i hate techno...

Centipee on 2001-11-02 09:43 [#00047914]

Yeah, ICBYD is overrated in my opinion... Acrid Avid Jam
Shred, Mookid, and Alberto Balsalm are good though.

balthus from europe on 2001-11-02 11:03 [#00047928]

have the same feelings with icbyd, but i like mookid, icct
hedral and next heap with. i listened to it in record stores
but i never had the feel of the need to buy it. there are
very good old tracks on 'classics', and saw ii is great. my
favourites are the eps like donkey rhubarb, girl boy, come
to daddy and windowlicker and drukqs. as richard d james
gets older he gets better, more serious... but the typical
humour is in drukqs still there, but it's more subtle.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-02 14:11 [#00047958]

How can people say ICBYD is overrated? It's brilliant!!!
Most people say RDJ album is better... oh my god, how can
you say that, ICBYD is on a totally different level then
RDJ...

Ophecks on 2001-11-02 15:49 [#00047968]

Yeah, ICBYD seems so polished or something. Not too violent,
not too mellow, just really balanced. RDJalbum is too all
over the place, but still incredible.
