i discovered electronica from the internet - kind of.

my parents bought me the prodigy cd "fat of hte land" and i
got into electronic music in general there - then later -
when we go the internet - i got exposed to much more music
through the use of p2p applications.

hhehe - pickering - i know where that is :P

i heard of aphex twin cause tool referenced them once, been
hooked ever since, a teeny bit of research led me onto
autechre and squarepusher. Dont much care for most of the
other electronic artists. Hate BoC, like bits of venetian
snares [heard of through this] and that bodgan bloke, hes
pretty ace [again, through this board]

a friend of mine introduced me to 7\, then autechre, and
then i started d/ling a couple of songs that had so and so
featuring so and so, and thats how i found squarepusher, but
i cant seem to find ne thing else. gah! and if i DO find ne
thing its through the xltronic mixes, but i cant find ne of
the individual artists work.... and im underage for most fo
the shows that go on.... and yes i do live in pickering, and
i know where guelph is corticalstim...

In addition to pommes list I recommend checking some equally
(or greater) talented but lesser known artists such as Chris
Ochre and Orangedust, plus it is worth checking out a lot of
people who post music here as some of them have very
interesting ideas or sounds.

recommend cd's not just artists, buying the right album
would be a good start when listening to a new artist

Must be weird coming into electronic music now. I like to
think I got into music at a good time to appreciate all the
various progression and scenes.

When I got in electronic music original ambient was the
major influence Brian Eno and all that. Now things are
radically different.

you are looking in the right place coming to this message
board. go to the search box and type 'recommend' for
starters.

or check out the 'now playing' threads. see what we are
listening to. mostly good taste on this message board, even
some of the ass-holes here listen to good music. lol

i was REALLY into orbital because of one of my dj friends.
online reading orbital reviews someone mentioned Autechre.
i downloaded most of incunabula, said "this is sweet, i
should buy one of their albums" and bought Confield.

it was QUITE the shock, but ever since i've been hooked on
idm.

yea i went out to the mall the other day to see terminator 3
and decided to stop buy the HMV and see what they had. they
DO carry some artists like squarepusher, autechre, aphex and
paul oakenfold. but they were sold out of everyone except
paul, which cost a steap $43 canadian. is there ne where to
get the stuff cheap, aside from kazaa?

offline ScenarioDr on 2003-07-24 10:52 [#00792269]
Points: 720 Status: Addict

paul oakenfold doesnt do stuff like aphex ect at all, so
avoid him for starters. unless you like house/trancey kinda
stuff that is.

warpmart & boomkat are pretty good sites for
mail order stuff. may take a while to get to you though.

offline pyro5hit9rind from Pickering (Canada) on 2003-07-24 11:23 [#00792287]

hmm.. i never thought of checking the record label site,
good idea. and i like some house trance artists, ie: paul
oakenfold, auto, art of trance. others are just crap in a
bag

offline ScenarioDr on 2003-07-24 11:27 [#00792288]

fair play.

warp is good, they sometimes give you free stuff. boomkat is
a bit cheaper than warp and gives reviews of everything they
stock. both of them stock a very wide range of stuff
aswell.

happy shopping.
