 | i have a live show coming up so i busted out the ol trusty laptop and i noticed my music pgm has an audible click with
 simultaneous skip when playing audio..

the clicks are 2.5 to 3 seconds apart..

i checked other apps and its the same thing.. playing a .wav
file, using win amp, watching an .avi all have this click
and skip when playing audio.. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??

looking for others with similar experiences.

 | ARGH I had the exact same problem with my sound card - I resolved the Winamp playback issue by using the DirectSound
 driver.

I had a similar regular ticking in Cubase that I fixed by
getting a different version of cubase.

Depending on the type of sound card, the apps you're using,
and whether or not you're doing any live playing (with like
a midi keyboard), you might be able to fix things by bumping
up the DMA buffer size or using a DirectSound driver instead
of ASIO. But then your latency goes up so it's not so nice
for midi triggering from a keyboard or controller.

 What, OS, sound card, etc?

 | I think, in times like these, it's best to take out your anger by breaking things. try throwing a lamp against a fire
hydrant. or better yet, hurl a small piece of furniture into
the cast of the Today show on NBC.

but seriously, that sucks man. best of luck!

 i'd say change soundcards...

 | it is a little bomb someone put in your laptop and the detonator is counting down...!

assuming you are using windows: seriously, i would recommend
uninstalling the soundcard through the system menu in your
control panel (as in not physically) then shut the computer
down and turn it bak on (better than a plain restart) and
let the card be autodetected by the pc: it will uninstall
the card and hopefully get round a common pain in the arse
problem caused by windows updating your media drivers: this
caused so many XP headaches it is unbelievable. try this
before the buffer tricks cos it is generally better practice
