NEW Plaid - Spokes (WARPCD114)

It's a shame that it's not the DVD that was planned. The
response I got was from the guys at Warp via email, although
they didn't let on as to whether the project had been
scrapped or not.

It seems as if it may be released separately or as part of a
single off the album.

Warp site now has the information/confirmation.

DVD will be following next year.

Apparently the artwork is being revealed in chunks at
plaid.co.uk. Shame that they made the entire image publicly
available beforehand. Kind of ruins the surprise.

Coolies. And you're right, everyone who cares has probably
seen it already.

check the warp site...
it's cd/2x12" and the dvd's out in 04....oh and whoever
didn't like p-brane is a loon! by far the best thing they've
done - I got my grubby little finger's crossed they've taken
at least a few tracks in that general direction...much more
interesting than their previous material imho! (which i do
have and am not saying I dislike, just p-brane was better!)
:)

warp info! my bad!

Yeah... so... I'm up to track 3 and so far this album sounds
pretty nifty as usual :D

leaked apparently... I'm coming down to having the last few
songs. Tracklist:

01 - Plaid - Even Spring (featuring Lucca Santucci)
02 - Plaid - Crumax Rins
03 - Plaid - Upona
04 - Plaid - Zeal
05 - Plaid - Cedar City
06 - Plaid - B Born Droid
07 - Plaid - Marry
08 - Plaid - Get What You Gave
09 - Plaid - Buns
10 - Plaid - Quick Emix

They're a teeny bit more minimalist than the last few
albums... but they still have that lovely plaid feel.

No short segue tracks this time.

Zeal is the only track that has really stuck out to me so
far... but plaid has a tendancy to make me uncertain on
first listen, and then fall more and more in love each
time... I can tell it will happen with these as well.

No, it's very easy to make crappy farce fakes. I've never
been tricked by a fake of a band I cared about before, and
plaid is in my top 3. I would put money on these being what
you'll hear on the album.

pretty sure miamivice turned out to be a compilation only
release. itsu was for the video thing ...

there's a remix version of "quickenit" (which i think is not
as good as the original) ...

only a few tracks really are sticking out as great to me
yet... maybe i'll grow into the rest. I want to hear them go
deeper into the DARK ... stuff like prague radio... plaid
doing industrial is better than most industrial... if they
would only do it MORE.

Don't get me wrong. I really love this album, though.

it sounds very very plaid-ish :)

only the climax is in the first part of most songs and not
as if in double figure they were at the end, in DF they
build up slowely to the climax.

I need to let it grow on me :) (i got the same with double
figure)

Got it, listening now...

It sounds very similar to 'Mfaus' so far... very low key
though, bassy as fuck... I'm pretty sure this IS Plaid but
it's not what I expected from this release. Anyway, I'm only
on track 4 :)

offline Sepix from Major City (Austria) on 2003-08-02 06:28 [#00805268]

sounds like a new style ... much deeper and more monoton
than the last album.

offline xf from Australia on 2003-08-02 06:48 [#00805281]
Points: 2952 Status: Lurker

heh, yeah, its definitely plaid, but not the sound i
expected.

still trying to decide whether i like it or not; guess its
one of those albums you grow into. other plaid albums i
loved straight away; it had that kind of
get-into-it-straight-away feel that artists like wagon
christ/luke vibert has, but still have a long playability.

great artwork.

this is what i wanted them to sound like for the longest
time.

after hearing stills and coat i was like "man, they should
combine all that into long songs and make an album"

my wish came true

I still dunno about that artwork :P

The album's a bit strange too, all Plaid grows on me but
this was less instant than I thought it might be. Tracks 2,
7 and 8 stuck out first listens. It reminds me of P-Brane
but also of Trainer. It is intruiging enough for me to want
to play it again now I'm thinking about it :)

ok now I'm drunk and listening. That first track, the first
3 minutes are complete gash, we're skipping that. We're on
track 3 and it's beautifully produced, we are hoping it
grows on us. The album as a hole we mean. Very tinny drums a
la P Brane.

in fact, im considering those first 3 mins as one of THE
highlights on the album.

it's overall good, but the tracks are more complex and it
takes some time to get into them.

plaid never disappoints me.

Points: 10836 Status: Lurker | Followup to Phobiazero: #00809638

Really? I think the music for the first track is great but I
find the vocal shockingly bad, it ruins the start of the
album for me.

I wonder if there are any real killers on here - like you
said the tracks are more complex so it's taking time to
unravel their mysteries, there's nothing as immediate as
before. It works really well as an album though, I find
myself completely lost in it by about track 6/7.

... some of the tracks are also quite similiar to each
other; getting lost at first listens is not too difficult.

but it's all a matter of taste, I for one, just cant stop
listen to those first 3 mins. melancholic, dark, sad, yet
beautiful.

I reappraised the Plaid Remixes album on Peacefrog the other
day. It would seem that the two Nicolette tracks blighted
the whole thing for me. If you remove them, you have a great
collection of tracks remaining.

I hope this isn't one of those dodgy vocals tracks.

I know what you mean... although I meant getting lost in it
being a good thing :)

Martin - A few people seem to hate those Nicolette tracks -
I can understand why, but I don't mind the second one, it's
quite bouncy.
