just be relistening to these freaks again -- 'cut the apex'
is just immense - when it suddenly cuts out at the end, my
ears were truly ringing. real intense stuff. And I noticed
people looking up to my flat in a nonplussed manner as they
passed, whch is a good sign.

on a side note, I think I know why Anus uses repeated Rs.
The R key on this keyboard is stuck down, so frequently
throws up repeat Rs when I press it.

yup, they did a cover of that on their 'irony is a dead
scene' ep - I like it, but it's not their best - probably
the weakest track on the whole EP. Check out their debut LP
'calculating infinity' for a real slice of chaotic noise !
:)

irony is a dead scene is their best release i think, they
also have the under the running board ep and self
titled(havent heard this one) but all their stuff is great,
id like to hear the new album whenever that gets done.

i love this band. really insane and creative.
i can't wait to hear their new material with their new
singer..

the eponymous ep is real good - only very short, with very
short tracks. I prefe 'calculating infinity' to 'irony is a
dead scene', mainly as it is longer :D

i remember reading somewhere, that their old singer,
dimitri, would sometimes smear feces all over his body while
singing at their shows..

I've only seen a few mpegs of them playng live - I love the
way they handle their guitars - they look a real blast on
stage, and their singer is pretty sexy, too. I'd love to
catch them at a gig.

well they've got a new singer recently, and i heard he's
been described as intellectual and "preppy" looking.. like
fans were making fun of the way he looked on their message
board or something.. but i guess you'd have to be a pretty
intelligent person to be able to sing well to their
off-timed-madness they call music..

sounds like.. i mean how the hell would you compete at
all

No moshing at a Dillinger gig? Possibly impossible :)

Their new singer - Greg - is the huge bastard with a voice
like a banshee. I dunno if he's any more versatile than
Dimitri, not a lot. He sounds alright on the Billy Idol
cover they did - if that was him, not sure of the line up
for that. Infinity is fantastic tho and I hope the new full
length gives them more recognition.

"Calculating Infinity" is a pretty damned interesting
record. It's just about the most technically complex metal
I've heard. I saw them live late last year and their show
is pretty chaotic. I don't like the new singer as much as
Dmitri and after hearing the new song (without Patton) they
played on their BBC Sessions ("50V Phantom Your Band Sucks"
- what an awful title), I'm beginning to fear for the future
of the DEP. That sentence was long and confusing, sorry.

Dillinger is amazing.

I believe there is a peel session they did with their new
singer on it. If so, this is the only existing music with
their new singer. Except for bootlegs, of course...

I saw them play sometime last year and it was rather
amazing. The singer does all the old stuff well and seems to
be eager to record new stuff.

Mike Patton, in my opinion, is awful, and I really don't
understand how people enjoy him so much, or why dillinger
would even want to work with him.

sorry everyone, but their new singer blows. i've seen him
live. he screams one, very high pitch. it's. dimitri was
a much better singer and wrote more interesting lyrics
besides, in my opinion.

after hearing their track on the underworld soundtrack, i'm
totally not interested in their music anymore (the new
stuff).

calculating infinity and those eps are all really excellent,
though. i enjoy those very much.

new cd:

there are some good songs and some bad songs. and some mixed
up. then there are some awful drum machine electric hardcore
fusion songs with singing of the reznor-esque. those are
AWFUL.

it'll be pretty hard to top calculating infinity. ever.

I used to be into Dillinger before I bought Drukqs and my
life was forever changed... My favourite release of theirs
was probably Under The Running Board and Sandbox Magician
was probably my favourite of their tracks. I was really into
Drowningman as well. You guys heard them?

offline Jarworski from The Grove (United Kingdom) on 2004-07-30 02:52 [#01290149]

I love the sound of this record, I just wish there were some
better songs on it. It starts strong and gets slightly
diluted the longer it goes on for me. I always find it
slightly uncomfortable when a band wears it's influences so
strongly as well, especially on a sophomore effort. Up to
and including 'Phone Home' they seem to be forging an
excellent new slant on their old sound, then on 'SFTSG' they
turn into a Mr Bungle/Tomahawk tribute band. Fair play to
the vocalist, I didn't know he was that versatile,
but to hear him apeing Patton so openly jarrs for some
reason, even given their work with Patton in the past. The
fucking NIN *spit* track is ok, but again the voice
impersonation puts me off. The last track is excellent, more
like the early songs - and highly reminsicent of Morbid
Angel. What I liked about Dillinger as soon as I heard them
was there was absolutely NO cheese about them. All heavy
metal cliches are completely abscent from UTRB and CI. It's
not really the case with this album. Good stuff I think, but
not worth waiting five years for a second full-length

r40f - the live performances of CI songs he does use pretty
much the one high pitched bark but then Dimitri's vocals are
fairly one dimensional, he should put his own spin on them
cause the variety of shouts he uses on 'Panasonic Youth'
(video available at www.pitvideoz.com - it's not that good
tho) are plentiful. The video of 'Sugar Coated Sour' live at
Reading 2002 is fucking awesome, check that out if you ain't
seen it.

I thought this album was disappointing. Most of the songs
are just less interesting remakes of Calculating Infinity
tracks, with a little bit of "experimentation" thrown in
that just sucks. I'm a big fan of experimental metal
(Pelican, Isis, all this genre bending stuff) but I don't
think this is done right. Admittedly I haven't listened to
Miss Machine too much yet but that's because I find it
fucking boring. I can't wait for the new MASTODON record on
8/31

jaworski - you've got a point, dimitri wasn't the strongest
or most innovative singer, but at least on the records he
solidly got the job done. to be fair, all i've heard on
record sung by greg is that track on the underworld
soundtrack, but i absolutely hate that song. so he has left
a bad first impression on me. and thanks for the link, but

mp3s for the uninitiated.

panasonic youth isn't the trainwreck that b.f.c. is, but
it's nowhere near as interesting to me as their old stuff.
the vocals really take away from the song, i think.
especially towards the end - it's so squealy-sounding...
