so, i was at the bjork concert near my home town last week,
and i have to say that the most incredible musical
experience in my live (i hadn't had much experiences anyway,
but who the fuck cares).
she played with the islandic string octet, and matmos. she
was just incredible. i mean, i came to the concert without
even knowing any song of bjork. i just thought that it could
be some fun there. now i'm really impressed and i try to get
all her songs... especially the original ones from the
concert.

one thing only, what disturbed me very much is, that in
magazines or television nobody tells a word about matmos,
who make the music for her. but i think, that they are a
VERY important part of her music. at the show the were
wonderful, nearly techno/harcory'ish. combined with the
sound of her voice...

anyone else like her ?

oh, and one thing goes through my head: is bjork idm ?

No Bjork is not IDM she is a little female that could fit in
your pocket.

her music is eclectic
classical, some songs are rockish..remixes makes them clear
they are...dancey..IDM....jazz
she is one of the best musicians around
i love her

-i like bjork very much, and i think many on this board
would agree
-matmos have gotten a lot of recognition (relative to other
artists from the genre) i think its been sparse lately
because its been a few years since both their last album and
vespertine were released.
-i dont think bjork would really be considered 'idm' by
most, though its a heavy influence on her music

is eclectic now...

how funny

eclectic is a term much favoured by music critics.

it effectively has no meaning.

ecletic just means that her music pulls elements from a
variety of sources. In my opinion it is what every good
musician should be able to do...basically genre
defying...luckily it has managed to keep away from becoming
too much of a geeky buzz word too.

i'm seeing Bjork soon, it will be my first concert as well,
really lookin' forward to it.

i'm not sure her music can be classified, and thats a good
thing IMO. she creates BEAUTIFUL music.....indescribable
music that can make your soul soar.....wowwww

i'd say bjork is idm if we're going to be calling stuff like
aphex and mouse on mars idm.. as for matmos, yea they are
really great and i think they're underrated in the press,
especially in bjork articles (she of course chats them up in
interviews). since you're a newcomer to bjork i'll let you
know that matmos have only worked on one of her albums,
vespertine (2001). you might want to buy that album for the
most similar material to the concert. besides singing, bjork
also plays instruments and writes most of the music, and she
has different musical collaborators on each album. her next
album features a bunch of people who've worked with her
before, including matmos and mark bell from her most recent
releases.

i'm seeing bjork next month. i can't wait. she hasn't been
to seattle in almost 10 years.

her music is deff. influenced heavily by idm and
experimental electronic music. but she has an extremely
unique sound that defy's genre classification. i would
attribute most of her 'eclectic' nature to her very alien
sounding voice. nobody sounds like bjork. not even close.

Did she have that music box at her show? that is one of the
coolest instruments i've ever seen. it's so awsome that she
has a custom music box that plays her own music. the
sound's it makes are really amazing too. all the winding and
spring noises. fucking awsome.

well except the singer from the slits and maybe stina
nordenstam.. hehe. and of course the immitators (emiliana
torrelini, etc.). but pretty unique voice and style for
sure.

bjork always work with other people (read: they re producing
her music)
post-> tricky howie b
homogenic, selmasongs-> mark bell
vespertine-> matmos

but the production of "vespertine" is mainly her own work,
matmos co-produced few tracks.
bjork asked aphex to work with her and the pusher too.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2003-07-18 12:33 [#00785372]
Points: 14550 Status: Lurker | Followup to Steamtank: #00785358

tricky only did 2 songs with bjork on 'post', howie b wasn't
the #1 collaborator either.. but even back then she was
still co-producing the music. each album is more and more
musically written by her (with selmasongs the first release
where she really started composing and arranging by herself,
eg: the orchestral instrumental "overture"). that said, you
can definitely hear the trademark of each collaborator on
each album they're involved with.

though he's never really mentioned, thomas knak helped out
on about half the tracks on vespertine.
he releases his own stuff under his own name, opiate, and a
few other aliases which is pretty nice.

having said that, people tend to downplay bjork's
involvement in the production end of things, assuming that
someone else makes all the music and she simply sings over
it, but as tits said, she's doing more and more herself
every album. i remember matmos mentioning in an interview
that bjork was responsable for a lot of the things on
vespertine that people probably thought was them.

who else worked on it. well, thanks.

Why are you bullying me in public freqy? Saying I go to

very hurtful and not a good way to conduct yourself.
