part of the west coast, to be more precise. i'm goin with
my aunt, and 2 cousins.

we'll be actin like the usual ultratourists, complete with
group of people in a huge bus, driving from place to place.
yep.

i dont mind tho. i cant wait to see l.a, joshua tree
national park, grand canyon, lake powell, bryce canyon,
zion, las vegas, yosemite national park and frisco :D

i'll just be taking shitloads of pics, and hopefully
enjoying my copy of michael moore's 'stupid white men' along
the way, which i recently got for my b-day.

i was wondering if anybody has any tips on what to do in my
spare time, especially in l.a (i read that this place is
nearly as big as the country i live in, so if you could be
specific about the locations that'd be great :D), las vegas
and san fransisco.

what are cool things to buy? what is too exensive and what
isnt?

what are things that i should absolutely not do? (dolleater
already told me not to stare at gangsters too long. good
one!)

well thats all i can think of right now. i'd better start
packing.

cheers :D

lake powell. ugh. wicked dirty place. and it's funny...i
grew up in utah and yet i've never been to any of the
national parks there. be sure to visit goblin valley,
though. it's always looked wicked cool in pictures. =]

While in Frisco hang out at Haight-Ashbury with the bums and
hippies and then drop in Amoeba - big selection of records
and CDs plus lots of second-hand stuff (Chiastic Slide LP
for $10 new). Try to see the Golden Gate Park, which I
didn't because it is huge. Go on the weekend and there is a
shuttle that drives round the park.

bingo

It's funny, I grew up in the Bay Area, but never went!

Now I'm not there, and I NEED to go!

----------------
There is way to much to do to sum it up in one most. The
Bay Area is so diverse. Hang out in the city (SF) for a
couple days.

There is lots to do that isn't touristy. Check out Fort
Point. It's right under the GG Bridge, on the SF end,
people surf right by the rocks, you can walk all around.

Go down Lombard street, it's worth it. Just explore. When
you eat, find the most run down looking place you can,
gauranteed its a mom and pops place with the best food =D

If you feel it drive north thru Marin County (my home,
specifically Novato) and visit the rolling hills of
Sonoma/Napa and the famous wine country.

There is so much to do, but don't get caught up in seeing
everything, EXPLORE everything. Pick a spot and walk around
for a while, there are so many little things to love, the
people, the culture.

BEST CITY EVER. I love home, can't wait to be back at the
end of this term.

man that sounds fucking great.

to be honest i'm now looking forward to san francisco even
more.

but unfortunately i dont have the option of staying there
for long, as its an organised trip (yeah, pretty awful, but
i think of it as orientation, so i will know where i want to
come back to).

definitely goin to amoeba tho!

what about the bookstore? anyone?

oh and does any1 know if united airlines allow the use of
discmans or other audio devices when in the air?

Remember, American chics dig the foreign guy so try to get
laid as much as possible while dodging those pesky STD's.

:D hehe!

oh and if you like them grab some levis.

normally every airline allows portable music devices of any
kind.
they say dont play them when starting or landing, but they
dont look after it and i think it doesnt matter aswell.
well the last landing i had was pretty rough and i listened
to afx, hah.

good to know that i wont have to sit still for 9 hours and
not be able to listen to music :D

do you think the customs ppl at the airport would bother me
more if they saw a boards of canada sticker on my suitcase(i
doubt they would mind the aphex logo, which is already on
it) ? or what if they saw the michael moore book?

how do i go about getting laid by an american chick? do i
just step up to one and say 'hey there, i'm foreign, so lets
get it on' ?

and i still need to know a good bookstore where i can buy
part 2 and 3 of the 'his dark materials' series

Ask random girls if they know of any good clubs. Ask about
the clubs, how they are, kind of music and most importantly
will you see that girl there!

oh yeah
Amoeba is the best record store i've ever been in. i think
it used to be a bowling alley. they have HUGE sections of
all your favorite genres.

i also really liked the Diesel store in SF if you are into
buying over priced but tasty jeans.
You're not coming up to Seattle?

can't recomend a good bookstore, but there are huge chains
in the malls and shit.

With regards to your CD PLayer etc.

FAA regs dictate they are in the off position until 10min
after takeoff, and 10 mins after landing.

I've heard airlines generalize that to cross the 10,000'
mark, the pilots will usually give a call to the FAs that
it's clear to begin cabin service.

Keep it stowed for the 10 minutes, than enjoy. A couple
cases of interfernce from electro units on final approach
has just made it safe to leave em off for the most dangerous
portions of the flight.

enjoy San Fran!
