My mate is about to get an mp3-player, and he wants to know a good one to get, that's easy to use. A choice between ARCHOS or some GOODMAN machine. Any suggestions? (UK, not USA)

I think he's going for ARCHOS one, costs about £250 for 20GIGs of mp3 space, a built-in camera, and video watching capabliities, and a little microphone. Not a bad little package. Excellent for travelling and recording an audio journal.

No one mentioned 'Nomad Jukebox Zen'....makes the 'IPod' look positively bland.
IMO,of course.
However, price and something about the battery expiring after two years(and non replacable)has delayed my purchase somewhat.

yeah, i thought the zen's were cool, but they (these aren't my opinions, only what I've heard) don't sound nowhere near as good, despite creative's claims about EAX, tend to break a lot easier, and there was something else too.
there's other offerings out there that have stuff that the ipod doesn't; thing is, the ipod is a proven product.

I've had enough of my MP3 player. I bought a Rio 800, which back in the days was the top of the line. It has 128mb. Damn that's so NOT enough.
So I'm going back to a simple CD player. But a good one, with a good line-out for my portable amp + Grado headphones. I personally think they are small enough nowadays.

my mp3 player is junk. maybe they have gotten better since mine was made, but it only fits like 20-30 songs on the memory card and the cards are so expensive.

I?m a minidisc freak myself, mostly because they are rugged and offers great recording possibilities. The media won?t crash either - great if you want to save your recordings for future use...
The best thing with a mp3-player FOR ME is the possibility of getting a "steady state" player without any moving parts. You can shake it how much you want! (great for sports and stuff) The memorycards isn?t that expensive nowadays. But unfortunatly there isn?t any mp3 flash-based player around that are made of aluminium and has that "air of quality" around it that the topnotch sony minidisc has...
