have you tried it?
it's "technichally" better than fruityloops, the only downside is that it's a little more complex to use, because you can do so much more, but you can do ANYTHING with jeskola buzz, whereas you can do shit all but sequence in floops, if you had to choose one of the two to get good at, jeskola would be the better choice (plus it's open source {free}) but then, if you're comfortable with floops, I guess I can't help you, sorry.

jeskola works by importing 'virtual machines' and each of these machines are like a music making program all of their own, so instead of being restricted by the limitations of the program you can search the online library of 1000's of different machines until you can find something that will do what you want, and if you're truly motivated, you could even write your own, the 'open source' nature of it has ensured that's it's a program that will continue to grow through fan support. (fans of the program making new machines, and so forth)

I agree....Buzz is very good software, still learning it btw. Downside is it's stability though. I tends to crash more often than, say, FL. Also, as you said, it requires more time and effort to be mastered.
Drums need some work as well, some sound a bit too muffled dull.
Buzz is very powerful though and more flexible too I think.

FL Studio is dirt cheap considering what it does. Buy a license!
You get great sample manipulation tools - beatslicer, granulizer, sampler and wav editor - live midi and audio recording, ability to use DXi and VSTi plugins and BUZZ MACHINES, low latency if you have an asio card, a boatload of effects, and any knob can be controlled by an external midi knob or slider.
I'm astounded they aren't charging twice the price.

I had jeskola buzz, but didn't like it that much. It's useful as a synth and FX plug-in in fruityloops tho, sometimes. Floops is good because you can use so much in it -- softsynths (VSTi and DXi), VST and DX FX plugins, soundfonts, wav files. There's no reason why a person can't get a very nice track down on fruityloops, as long as they don't used the Playlist, and export wav files to a sequencer (I use the Cool Edit sequencer for that, which is a nice simple one, plus you can further edit the wav files, which you can't really do in Floops - not without a HEAP of hassle.)
I remember I started to write a Fruityloops Manual, but didn't see the point -- maybe I'll dust it and work on it some more - I had just written about the fundamentals of music, rhythm and note values and all the rest, and was describing how to use the Piano Roll.)
btw, sorry I don't have that edition of Floops, monoid :)

A week really isnt that bad. Considering the fact that it takes usually that long or longer to feel comfortable with a program.
I am excited about this one!

the soundquality of buzz is kinda shitty though. I used buzz for 1 day and it annoying the shit out of me. it's very confusing, ugly and it's very unstable. but I'm sure someone who likes it can make good music with it. a buddy of mine uses it to make drum&bass and it sounds good to me.
there is no such this as "this prog is better" it comes down to with what prog you feel comfortable with and what suits your needs.

Interesting - so you don't use the playlist? Do you just create one pattern and use the channels as tracks? I considered doing that but it's a pain to copy and paste bars. I ended up using the playlist - it's only a tiny bit like trying to lick the back of your head. :-)
If the next version of fruity gets a more traditional sequencer interface instead of being tracker based, it will kick major butt.

I have REALLY shit RAM, so I really have no choice in the matter :D But actually, I prefer using Cool Edit - you can save wavs as new files in CEP, and then change them and stuff - adds a little variety :)

You know, sometimes technical limitations will make you come up with interesting things. I used to compose drum breaks in Dos with a speech synthesizer - the hard consonants were my snare and bass drum, and the sibilants and fricatives were my cymbals.

I completely agree with you there, fleety - my limitations mean more improvisations and stuff like daat. I've experimented with making rhythms from snippets of speech at times - it's very fun, don't you think? :)

My understanding is the demo is identical to the working version - it just needs a key in the registry. When I bought it, they sent me a .reg file, I doubleclicked on it and hey presto my "demo" could save projects.
So surely there's a keygen floating around out there? The copies that are haxored to run without any key are probably needlessly shitfucked. There's something about audio apps being realtime that makes them very sensitive to hacking. Even my working copy of cubase is dodgy if I set the dma buffers lower than 512.
