Just my opinion here, but others seem to share it as well,
these remixes arent really too special are they? I mean,
lets not kid ourselves. er... some of them were Ok yeah, but
wheres the originality. Wheres the fun? I dont understand if
these were the best ones what were the others like?

Im not saying they sucked so bad, but none of them seemed so
special to me, they all just lack something, or a couple
things most of them.

is this a compilation of remixes you were listening to, as
in a new release?

Maybe you anticipated some really good music like
Autechre, but none of us here are hardly as good as
them, therefore feeling a little let down?

I mean I hate to say it, but I think this goes to show that
EVERYONE can make music, and probably does, but not many are
really good at it, yet or ever.

Pipe Dream. I Dunno, not saying my electronic stuff was any
better, cause it probably wasnt, but I dont make that stuff
anymore, I do, but I program over guitars with a band, still
do some solo stuff but its very "songy" compared to IDM,
more guitar, other people... a band.. a real band.

I dunno, it just seems like there was once a phase were
everyone was a DJ, and now everyones making tunes with
their comp and pirated software... such artists! making
remixes that hardly sound good.

popularly.

there were some quality mixes that i got to hear that did
not make the peoples choice cut..

i think we will all be surprised when we are able to hear
all the entries.

yeh. i mean, im not expecting them to like what i like. if
they liked those tracks, thats cool with me. not going to
knock someone elses opinion.

but i will try to reinforce my own.

well, to me the sad thing is the Chosen Fifteen lack
diversity. they all sound within the same spectrum - all
very melodic, very cleancut.

I would've liked a wider range.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-07-11 14:43 [#00774750]

my real complaint, is that id like to know the original
tracks...

because without knowing this, we arnt voting on remixes, we
are voting on stand alone songs... and i must say many of
the remixes are not very recognizable.

Its a remix compition... it should be about who does the
best REMIX

imo

I actually think I agree with you. Because I recognise a few
tracks, and this makes them different to the others for me.

ah but that depends on your definition of remixing.

to me, the further away a remix is of the original, the more
interesting it becomes.

You know why.......

Well, the competition was motivation for people to focus
their musical energy toward a particular task (which was to
remix Autechre). Most people who did it were probably fans
of AE, and I think everyone who made a track got something
out of it because of that, but also because, generally,
doing things is better than not doing things.

'doing things is better than not doing things.'

is it

ka: ok, yeah ofcourse, but why does that mean that they have
to be "not good"? thats no excuse just a bad reason.

yes, but how can it be more interesting, if we dont even
know the source material?

it would be more interesting if we knew, so we can see where
it went from the original

Anus_: You know and I know that there are clearly examples
of where this doesn't apply. What I meant to say, in terms
that were too general, is that apathy and cynicism are a
popular substitute for not trying. Maybe I should have said
that "trying is better than not trying".

Reflex: I'm definitely not suggesting reasons for you to
like something you've decided you don't like, and instead of
saying what I think is obviously true - that some will love
what others hate - I will do what you did, and express my
opinion, which is that some of the tracks are pretty cool,
and that I'm glad to have heard them, and for that reason
alone, I find the fruit of the competition worthwhile.

It's best not to buy in too much to the "competition" aspect
of this. No judge is blessed with THE absolute taste in
things. Look at the Oscars.

OH ALRIGHT THEN...

if you want to get all normal and rational about it..

..you are right.
