Your thoughts on walking

I really enjoy walking. I was wondering if anyone else
does. Seriously though. This isn't a joke. I tend to walk to
a lot of places, sometimes long distances. My friends seem
to all dislike walking if it's longer than like a block or
two. I mean, why the rush? Walking is nice. It may take
longer, but hey you're going to get there. Or even riding
bikes. Just because you're old enough to drive doesn't mean
you have to drive everywhere. Bikes are fun too. Walking is
the best thing ever.

and, ermmmmm, my car is broken.....

but i still like walking anyway. seriously.

You americans are so weird.

My brother moved to Texas awhile back and he tells me these
strange stories of everybody owning car and driving to the
7-11 that's 500 meters away. I think he also said that there
is no public transportation whatsoever there. That is just
so odd!! I live in Helsinki and you really don't need a car.
You can get everywhere fast and relatively cheaply by just
using the bus/tram/subway system.

I mean no offence by this post, it just amazes me how
different everything is across the ocean.

And yes, I think walking is fun too! It's also good
exercise.

me and a couple of friends used to spend entire days
walking, we used to just walk and talk, going to all crazy
distances and back for no reason, but I broke my leg
recently, so long walking is out of the question now,...

I always end up parking terribly far from wherever I'm
trying to reach, just because I can't parallel park if there
is only one space between cars, so I must go to the more
un-populated areas

I always park RIGHT in front of where I need to be, but not
always legally

but I don't mind walking. it's just walking. It is the 3rd
most energy efficient form of transportation known to man

I love it! I could use my bike or the bus but walking is so
calm. I can think really efficent about my life n stuff
while Im walking. Its kinda like a trance. When I worked in
kitchen I had to chop 50+ Tomatos every morning and while I
was doing it i had the same feeling.

I used to walk stupidly long distances...just on a whim.
Especially when the skies are gray and there is a strong,
stiff, cool breeze blowing...What I do NOT like doing is
having to walk on main streets...I try to take the
by-lanes...

yeah, zoning out whilst doing those things is pretty damn
cool, it always sucks when all you can think of is how long
something is taking,... so it seems to take forever

I enjoy walking too. It's really cool and relaxing. I'm
going on holiday on Saturday and my girlfriend is coming
with me. We're going to some place near Buxton. Loads of
walks there so it's a good job we've got the dog :)
Also going Alton Towers though. w00t!

I love to walk too. I recently joined a gym here in
Lithuania, and I regularly walk the three miles to the gym,
work out for an hour, swim 30 lengths and then walk back
home! It's a killer, but I always feel really relaxed
afterwards.

Laurie Anderson did a song about the mechanics of walking...
"It's like falling, and then you stop yourself from falling"
or something like that. It's called "Walking and Falling"

Walking is great for the mind, body and environment.

together. she recently moved to a new neighbourhood with
loads of little parks, canal walks etc so we´re exploring
everywhere on foot.

tired much easier, that's a bit weird?!

It has been my experience in the USA that they'll take their
cars to the 7-11 500 meters away, too. I think they are so
car-dependant maybe because of the separation between
residential and business/retail sections of their community.

Most people in this town have cars or especially bikes -
there are more of those here than anywhere else I've lived -
and there's decent public transportation for those who don't
(such as myself), but I always end up walking everywhere
anyway. I wish I had more time to walk just for the sake of
it; maybe I'll be able to make use of the summer for this.

i walk like a madman... several kilometres each day... and
in the weekends i basically recover all my city walking.
it´s like a need.
maybe i´m still searching for somebody...

just a curious thing.
did u discovered how IDM is riding a bike?
you have boards of canada - happy cycling
and múm - slow bicycle
and i know a local IDM artist that has a track called riding
a bycycle. it´s because it´s just something so simple,
natural and naive...

I do a lot of biking.
I bike 5 miles (7km) to work and the same back. This is the
quickest mode of transport.
Also,I do a lot of mountainbiking and road biking on my days
off.I often go out and do 60+ miles.
Also I walk quite a bit,but being a biker walking seems to
not seem so exillerating as getting on a bike.

But walking is nice for clearing heads, walking through
forests,up mountains and along cold beaches is the
best.Especially when listening to a good cd.

people like walking. I seriously need a walking buddy. That
would be so amazing.

I love walking... I could walk to Antarctica if I had a
discman and a LOT of CDs with me, I'd never get bored. Same
goes for driving. If I've got music, I can drive till I pass
out.

Without music, I get frustrated when I have to walk unless
it's in a new or interesting area, in the woods or a castle
or a dungeon or something. You know, those kind of places.

America just to do more walking.

I like walking through the city late at night, coming from a
session of drinking etc. at a friends house. Stumbling
through empty streets and thinking aimless thoughts, on a
nice night it's wonderful. Also prevents me falling into
bed wasted and waking up with terrible hangovers.

i love walking to go exploring remote, presumably haunted
areas of woods and to exploring abandoned houses and shit
with my friends.

being able to walk is a great thing, most of us take it for
granted.

Yeah, walking is fantastic that's for sure. It sort of
cleans you out and makes you feel more refreshed about your
life, yourself etc...

but I can never listen to SAWII while I'm walking because I
can't hear it, damnit! Traffic/birds and animals/other
people are always too loud...

Nope...SAWII is listened to whilst overlooking the ocean.
Absolutely beautiful.

yeah I think walking, like talking is also a great way to
think. Besides listen to music you can't do too much that
will occupy your brain when walking so I find I think of
some good sht.

walking is great and all but running is where it's at. i
used to go running at night all of the time when i lived in
town and i would scare the shit out of myself imagining
running from all of the rapists and murderers that were
hiding in the bushes next to the sidewalks. there is not
much that is more invigorating than that kind of adrenaline
rush.

Funny a topic about walking would come up. I've walked many
a kilometer so far. I lived in town for along time, and
made lots of friends here, but in grade 11 i moved to a bay
that was just outside town, about 16km. I walked back and
forth from town (St.John's) to my home (Torbay) so many
times. Its a very relaxing thing, gives me the feeling of
being closer to nature.

Recenly I fractured my leg, and I now sport a few new scars
and a metal rod. For about a month I could not walk, and it
was only then that I realized how much I took it for
granted. I try to walk for 2 hours every day to get my leg
back to normal, using weights on my ankles.
(Oh i live back in town btw, moved out with some
roommates).

Biking also rocks, i love the rush i get when going
40+km/hour down hills, and the fact that i can travel so
fast without causing any damage to the environment!
