tracks and I like NIN.

Mastodon
Immolation
Carcass
Repulsion
Terrorizer
The Chasm
Uphill Battle
Cephalic Carnage
Commit Suicide (best band name ever)
Macabre
Pre-1998 Slayer
Necrophagist
Nile
Pigsty
Rotten Sound

Tons others... Mastodon is my favorite though.

ashamed. Click here for your own good.

"Anal Cunt" sweet name

yeah, I think Smyrma has been going on about Mastodon
lately, but I'm not a metal head even, and I was grooving to
the death vibes.

=)

Type O Negative
My Dying Bride
Fantomas (i'd say they are a blend of various styles)

as for trash/death - i used to listen to such stuff a lot,
now occasionally

Carcass - they've got really good riffs and sound pretty
cheerful ;)

Sepultura's Chaos AD was an awsome album

...and Obituary were defininely melodic masters ;)

I have been going on about Mastodon a lot, but that's
because they're hands-down my favorite current band. Their
full-length "Remission" is the best album of 2002 (imo) and
any metal fan should check it out. It's really varied (the
mp3.com page only has the really heavy stuff, but they
mellow out sometimes too) and every track is great.

I used to be a big death metal fan, but then i just sort of
burned myself out on it... i mainly listen to downloads my
friend has found though of underground stuff like Absu, or
my Sepultura albums. (old-school Max Cavalera era)

Some of favorites though are:
Napalm Death
Sepultura
and of course, Slayer.

Metal basics, of course.

I don't think so.. they're more like a punk / hardcore
hybrid. Not a lot of grind in there.

If we're just talking metal-related and not rock in general:
Melvins, Brutal Truth, 324, Soilent Green, Eyehategod,
Fantomas, Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis, Ministry, NIN
(in no particular order). I think Anal Cunt is funny. I'm
not really a fan of Sepultura, but I love Ratos De Porao's
cover of "Biotech Is Godzilla". I also dig Entombed's
"Morning Star" LP.

Pig Destroyer rules.

I read that for their next album, it's going to be a 2-disc
set. The first disc will be a concept album, the style
you'd expect from PxDx. The second disc is going to be a
30+ minute long epic track mixed in 5.1 surround stereo.
Shit, it's gonna be awesome.

Oh yeah, on the lesser known tip. Check out this band
Kalibas. The lead singer has the craziest voice I've
heard in hardcore/metal/thrash. He pulls off the lowness of
death metal and then goes right into the menacing wailing of
hardcore/thrash. Definately worth checking out, I saw them
live a month ago amazing shit.

I love the fact that Morton has to comment in every metal
thread "I don't like it".

I still listen to metal all the time. Eagerly awaiting the
new Dillinger album.

Reflex - Go for 'Necrotism: Descanting The Insalbubrious'
album for Carcass, then 'Heartwork'. The older albums are
far crazier, grindcore as fuck but those two are superior
imo.

war metal! there's a great show
that plays an hour of war metal, and hour of death and an
hour of grind every saturday. i don't miss it if i can.

i've seen kalibas a few times.
they were great. i don't remember how outstanding his voice
was, but both times they were playing with other amazing
bands, so maybe it was just the company...

I'm listening to loads of Slayer this week.
Other current faves are Sepultura, the first Machine Head
album (before they went totally shite), and the new
Metallica album.

Got out a book from the library yesterday called Lords of
Chaos. tis all about the black metal scene in Scandinavia
but some bastard/bitch had ripped out loads of pages. Every
five pages are so, there's one missing. I'm wondering if it
a religious person took offence to the book and decided to
make it unreadable to everyone else.

Hey Vader fucking RULE, they hit just the right vien (hehe)
between out and out death and head bangin metal, I rate them
a lot. From Poland.

+ I like Deicide, (sacrafical suicide - mmm) Carcass,
Entombed, + Obituary, amongst others.

I don't listen to it that often but sometimes nothing else
hits the spot.

Necroticism: Descanting The Insalubrious by Carcass
is my very favorite death metal album of all the time, I
really love it.

Other bands I still listen these days are Darkthrone,
Arcturus, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Enslaved, Borknagar

oh yes, Vader are great, get the Black to the blind
album. If you like them try some album of Behemoth, they
were black metal, but now they have a very brutal death
sound.

Kalibas has ex-members of Lethargy, so they're cool in my
book. Lethargy was classic. RIP 1992-1999

Carcass, as Yavo said, has a really varied catalog, with the
first two albums being fuzzy medical grindcore and the later
albums getting more melodic death-metally. "Heartwork" is
considered by many to be the best melodic death album of all
time.

Vader is also classic stuff. They started out as a Morbid
Angel / Slayer clone but they've really developed their own
style over the years and they're still on top of their game.
Plus, their live show is incredible.

dillenger escape plan, converge, american head charge, acid
bath, candiria, curl up and die, hopesfall, flatstick, mod
flanders conspiracy, today is the day, nasum.. and a lot
more i can't think of..

some of these aren't that metal-ly, i just usually like
heavy stuff if it still has some nice melodies.

mod flanders is pretty strange and original sounding
stuff..
haven't heard it all that much,
but it seems like a mixture of metal/melodic
hardcore/jazz/funk/etc..

I saw American Head Charge opening for Slayer a couple years
ago and they just seemed to try way too hard to be cool
while they have pretty boring music, imo. The singer was
wearing ski goggles and everyone in the band was wearing
ridiculous outfits in an attempt to get attention to set
them apart from the tons of other bands that sound just like
them.

yeah, i know what you mean.. they go a little overboard with
the image and everything sometimes..
i've seen them actually, in their hometown, in minneapolis,
and they really didn't do anything like what you described..
but i've heard of some of the things they do on stage, and
it's kind of over the top for no reason.. just like their
music in a way..but, i mean.. i like them if i just sit down
and listen to their album.. some of their songs are really
good in my opinion, i really love some of the electronics
and how they fit with the music,.. i like how it seems like
the singer isn't afraid to sing actual notes, and croon his
ass off if he wants to, and isn't worried about being seen
as not metal enough, or whatever.... i just try to not pay
attention to a band's image and stuff like that..
but to each his/her own..
