At the weekend I indulged myself in the 5 for £30 Virgin
"sale" and I've spent the day listening to them:

Joni Mitchel: Blue
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy: Master and Everyone
Simian: Chemistry etc
Nina Simone: Legends (3cds)
Grandaddy: Sumday
Tom Waits: Used Songs

and they've made me rather happy. For the first time in ages
I've liked all my impulse purchases. I'd forgotten what it's
like to get a whole load of great new music.
Together with Nymphomatriarch, Ace of Clubs and a DM &
Gemini promo from Warp at the end of last week, it's made my
week so far very nice indeed :)

Just thought I'd mention it.

Ah, minor correction. Those with eagle eyes and mathematical
skills will notice that I've listed 6 separate releases and
the sale was for 5. Grandaddy I bought in Music Zone for
£10.

im interested in what the simian album is like. i thought
their version of papua new guinea was quite original and
interesting, sounds like theyre playing it live sort of.

remember Freiheit? And their "top" 80's pop number "Keeping
the Dream Alive"? Well imagine that vocal style (in a good
way) combined with the Beach Boys, the Beta Band and throw
in a bit of psychedelia and acoustic guitar and there you
have it.

It's damn spankingly good. Dare I say it's even better than
"Ease On Down the Road". But less varied. Doesn't beat "I
See a Darkness" though. At after a couple of listens it
didn't strike me as being as great as that was after a
couple of listens. If that makes any sense
