I just listened to 'renegade bass' and it was awful! A
cheesy jungle bass, some slowed-down breaks, some crap
MCing, and little else!

I suppose it is for people who like their music with a bit
of life and energy; music that reflects the state of britain
now, rather than, i don't know what you idm people listen to
-- morr music? cco? pole?

Tell me what the state of britiain is? IF it's anything like
this music, then it must be a pretty terrible place to live

There is good uk garage. Some of it is totally bedroom and
sketchy, but has a lot of energy, some is ultra smooth... It
does have it's moments

sorry, this is the wrong place for open minds, I'm off.
thought you'd like music with energy & vision, but you're so
up your own arses. pricks.

I used to like that Ripgroove track....can't remmember who
it was by though?

Double 99 did Ripgroove...I remember that track.

The thing with UK Garage is that it is a raw music
form...like drum and bass was when it was good. It is not
really meant to be sat down and listened to but you are
meant to be at a club or out with a gang of peeps with that
shit on.

I can see how headphone music listeners might find it basic
but unless you go out and get involved in the scene you are
missing the point of the sound.

Obviously we aren't allowed to have opinions!

Btw don't go around insulting people it's not very nice, I
just don't like uk garage i mean big fucking deal there are
plenty of people who do.

Whoever said the garage scene was moody?

"Obviously we aren't allowed to have opinions!"

woo!

actually you made a statement. yeah, personally I'm into the
music of the uk garage scene, which is like jungle or
hardcore(jungle tekno) but slower. Or like some breaks. It's
not particularly moody - neither was jungle.. if you get
involved & show some interest & dedication - people respond
reciprocally. just that some of them have guns, but that's
in all scene's where drugs & turf are involved

Why is it that if an IDM fan doesn't like another genre it's
because they're elitist snobs and if a garage fan doesn't
like IDM it's because it's dorky electronic noise?

Your response "why are you all such fucking twats here?" was
a bit off as only one person (skink) had said it was
shit...

Tolstoyed and myself both recommended tracks to him.

leave the new kid alone.. if he believes two-step with a
twist is fun to listen to then he winds.... like the
Osbournes chucking Pepsi twist in that commercial before the
movies....
i bet uk garage is easier to spin than IDM

it seems like this wave is one of regression, esp when
contrasted with the wave of drum/drill n bass, trip-hop, idm
that preceeded it.. is this more poppy shit though? or are
'garage' artists being celebrated over there? it's so
goddamn basic./weak

why is it called garage?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2003-07-09 16:44 [#00772240]

if it sounds more poppy is because of the vocals imo...and
it is a bit more melodic :)

more melodic on first listen, nothing beats idm in that!

OK brief history:

Originally played in clubs to move away from the over
"badbwoyness" of the jungle scene at the time (94ish) it was
the better US garage of the time played faster... then some
producers made their own versions of the pitched up style
and threw in some reggae / jungle elements for the UK crowd,
soon breeding a wide range of styles from the jungle at
house tempo style to smoother, but with hard skippy cropped
beats stuff...

Went big for a while but spilt into the smooth "craiiig
david" style commercial stuff (but rewind was a good pop
tune i reckon) and the pirate radio type stuff which is a
quite bass heavy and bedroom production ting, with amateur
MCs giving it loads. Still going strong, but quite
underground.

Like I said, it has it's moments, imo.
