ok, Im high, so this might just be the reason... but im
listening to Winter In The Belly of The Snake, right
now....and its just like... fucking chill. Even all of the
crazy glitches seem some how ambient in some way...

its just weird, cause i know alot of people consider snares
real hardcore and stuff...

yep winter seemed a lot more mellow because of the use of
electronic sounds instead of the normal heavy drum
breaks....it is a pretty ambient album though, I am not too
sure about it in places, it seems a bit scatty and random,
but it can be an enjoyable listen :D

i actually think it might not be as hardcore, because it is
so random. i mean yeah, there are glitches all over the
place... but its not in a consistant time signature, so you
dont get the driving pulse. its ambient rythems

$5 says that previous paragraph made no sense

I would agree with you there...because their are not really
any repetative breaks to latch onto and think "fuck this is
hard" it lessens the as you say the driving pulse.

OctaMED, I think. Surely some other things, too.

Some of the patterns sound like they are done in Reason to
me...also he deffo uses FM7 because I recognise some of the
sounds.

yeah, i bet he uses alot of NI stuff... reaktor etc.

Very slick sounds... which they are known for

he uses OctaMED as a tracker/sequencer, and Sound Forge for
a lot of his wav editing and such

I will have to have a look at that OctaMED.

venetian snares is straight up fucking awful.. there really
is no two ways about it.. I loosened up on WITBOAS a bit..
but there's just not an ounce of talent in that kid

dont waste your time - OctaMED is nothing special, its just
a standard amiga style tracker - seriously - not worth a
look at all

I had a look at the site...it looks a bit shit and I think I
have actually seen it before when my mate used to try and do
music on his Amiga... :P

its not that hardcore to be hardcore anymore. its just
(gladly) been mutating into something else. snares happens
to be able to do it well.

octamed is just old. it was good in its day.

yes - i am aware that OctaMED was good in its day - but
trackers are no use to the youngins of today :P

(im 15 and ive used trackers to make some songs :P)

snares hjas a lot of patience with edits and priogramming

but most seq kids with a few hours on their hands could do
most of what he does, if they really had the passion for
that kind of shiz.

I'm not into the whole weird time sigs shit, personlly.

I'm more into the "slick programming" rather than the
"HARDCORE MENTAL programming".

I find lots of the random drill and base type sound to be
quite annoying, rather irritating. I like winter in the
belly of a snake best because it is way more subdued and
actually pleasant to the ears.

I find snares, particularly in Winter in the bElly) able to
convey emotion. This is it!! It's often the biggest thing
lacking in electronic songs. His method apeals to me cause
iget the same feelings listening to ironic romantic pavement
lyrics or good old simple sebadoh love songs. His songs are
also humourous and intelligent. When i first heard him i
just thought fuck, finally, someone is making some sense!

the 7"split has been delayed for forever. first they were
waiting like 6 mo for 606 to actually make his side. then
after he made it, he didn't like it, and spent like 3 more
months making a new one. then they made test pressings last
month and supposedly it was skipping. although the copy
they sent xanopticon didn't skip...so i guess they're
recutting it now and it'll be out...someday? probably the
end of the summer.

xanopticon is going to have a cd album out on
mirex...eventually. what you guys mentioned is the best to
check now.
although you might dig his live sets even more, as he does
alot of cut-up stuff live.
