Foe dies after on-pitch collapse
Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe died following the Confederations Cup semi-final defender against Colombia in Lyon on Thursday evening.
Foe, 28, who spent last season on loan at Manchester City from Lyon, collapsed in the second half of the 1-0 win which took his country into the final.
The former West Ham midfielder was rushed to the side of the Stade Gerland pitch where medical staff tried for around 45 minutes to resuscitate the player without success.
The cause of death has not been confirmed, although FIFA issued a statement ahead of the kick-off in France's semi-final against Turkey in Paris. It read: "FIFA are announcing in tragic circumstances that Marc-Vivien Foe has died this afternoon during the match between Cameroon and Colombia.
"FIFA and the world family of football want to give his family and the Cameroon team their condolences."
The match in Paris was preceded by the image of Foe on the stadium's big screen and a minute's silence.
Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry - who had been informed of Foe's death minutes before kick-off - dedicated the opening goal against Turkey to him, pointing to the sky after netting in the 12th minute.
Foe was loaned to City after starring for his country at last summer's World Cup, his second spell in England after a year with West Ham.
Former City favourite Peter Barnes was stunned by the news and said: "I can't believe it. For anyone to pass away is very, very sad. But when someone is only 28 - well, I don't know what to say.
"He gave 120% for City and was full of work and effort. I'm sure the fans will see it as a very sad loss."

there's really no point in pointing these things out... people will just think you are insensitive assholes... (which may or may not be the case... but really, come on now...)

Is isn't very nice when thing like this happen. Death isn't nice at all.....but I agree with you Deadeight...I think it does come over as slightly insensative.
I don't know this person who died is, many of you here obviously do.....but those who don't I think a little compassion should either be shown, or perhaps to say nothing would have been better.

oh come on, it's not like a relative died or something.
this is just a public figure - you don't even really know him.
I'm not saying you can't grieve or whatever, but please keep it in perspective.

you are right... but its sad to see a 28 year old young man dying just because yes... just for destiny... no known cause... thats sad and its also impressive if you think it... cos I think... I must try to live my life at 100% cos anytime I can be off

thats also true... but at the same time sad.
its normal to die with 80 years or 90 years...ok... or its explainable a death due to adisiease or an accident... but when death comes in such an unexplainable way... I dont know I feel it

I have to say I was a little bit sad when I first read it because their was talk of him coming to play at Liverpool when we signed Rigobert Song, and I watched him play a few times for West Ham, he wasn't a bad player.
