Latency in Cubase

I never had any problem with Logic but now I have made the
move over to Cubase (mainly for the ReWire) and I am getting
horrible latency...I have done everything they have
recommended and nothing works...has anyone else experienced
this?

well - cubase is a very high resource program is it not?
probably moreso than logic - try getting a ram upgrade - or
a better soundcard if you think your setup is lacking - and
maybe try changing the buffer setup in the options

btw - what are you running?

I have latency issues with certain plugins when I overdo
it... need a LOT more information to help ya troubleshoot

Specs, how many plugins, what you've tried, etc, etc, etc

It is a new computer I have been building up for for the
past few months, it is a 2.53GHz P4 with 2GB RAM, soundcard
is a SoundBlaster Audigy II Platinum, and I have an
Evolution MC-249c controller keyboard.

FUCKING LATENCY MAN!

I am getting latency problems with every plug-in FM7 being
one of the worst, and I am talking about when it is a fresh
track and FM7 is the only plug-in selected. As I said
before I don't have any problems running Logic.

Cubase is version 5.1.

Got some speed happiness going... ASIO drivers for the
Audigy? Assuming MIDI through the sound card (I'm using a
little MIDI box since the Digi 001 still doesn't support it
with the ASIO drivers).

Always latency problems? Like, only with one instrument
going?

Worked fine with other programs?

Etc, etc

I think I will go back to logic, it would have been nice to
be able to use Reason as well though...I like it for drum
programming...oh well :D

Cubase is renowned for it if you use a Soundblaster for
soundfonts.

In such a case the way to go is get whatever the latest
Delta card is for audio and use the blaster just for midi.

That may not be relevant to you but a lot of people who had
to use blasters for soundfont found the delta worked
alongside and had much better latency.

The problem with the Delta cards is they had no midi you
see..

However, I haven't been in touch with all this for ages.
Last I heard, a lot of the better, lower latency cards were
coming out with midi capability too.

audioforums.com is a good place to go for current info.

FM7 is hideous for latency... I don't know why it's so, but
it is... thank god for downloading before buying something,
absolutely not worth it in the current form, at least for
me.

Try grabbing Cubase SX if you can, I know there's versions
up online to check it out, that fixed all my problems

The MIDI is actually through the USB port. The ASIO drivers
are bang up to date.

Yep with just the one instrument going we are talking about
a 1 second latency, where as through both Logic and FLoops
it isn't even noticable. Wierd thing is, if I run FLoops as
a VSTi and run FM7 through fruity the latency is less :S

Might just be the FM7... that plugin is just a pain in the
arse.

Try making your lines with the FM then exporting an audio
mix and using just the audio information if that's the only
plugin giving you problems.

Seriously would consider Cubase SX over Logic at this point
if you're a PC user. Heads and shoulders above 5.1 in a lot
of ways

Just such a pain... I hate setting up my computer for audio.
So many little damn things that prevent things from going
smoothly.

That's a good question... is it only latency with MIDI
information?

I want to properly try it before I buy itand the last
version of Cubase SX I downloaded wouldn't let me mess about
the REX files, it kept coming up with an error. So I am a
bit weary of it.

I think I might download it and give it another go.

Yep, just with the MIDI information, everything else is
sweet. I can get the melody in but then I have to edit it
by hand, but when I do the mixdown it all sounds OK

Check out the driver options in Cubase. It might not be
using the ASIO driver - it might be using one of the DirectX
or MME ASIO emulation modes.
