Best Band in the World?

I'm curious as to whom some of you consider to be the the
best band in the world as of today. I don't necessarily
mean a group composed of a guitars, bass, vocals and drums,
just a group who isn't exclusively using laptops and
software. I'm wondering if there's any groups out there
whom I haven't heard of that I may be missing out on.

My personnal choice is Godspeed You Black Emperor. I'm
continuosly impressed with this outfits musical output.
Just an epic, epic sound. Grand, sweeping movements layered
with strings, guitars, drums, samples and possibly the
kitchen sink.

Followed closely by Mogwai and Sigur Ros.

i think the prroblem with Sigur Ros is that they have not
rreally prroved themselves in the long-terrm.

they had 1 damn good album as i see it, and theirr currrrect
dirrection is going no wherre.

I have to agree on radiohead too here.
Alberto made a nice call with portishead, but they haven't
released anything in ages so I consider that band dead,
which actually means I'm pissed that they aren't making
music.

Hmm... definitely don't think Radiohead is. Sigur Ros gets
so boring to me. I really don't know what band could be
considered the best band in the world. There's so
many that I like.

portishead are currently hard at work making music for the
3rd album, so don't give up on them. Great things will come
eventually. It's probably the album i'm most anticipating
for. Have you heard Beth Gibbons solo album 'Out of Season'?

Herbwest didn't say who he actually thinks the
world's best band is.
He's embarrased to admit that its the Scorpions, or as he
lovingly calls them, "The Scorps."

evolume has a distinct odor of moldy fruit about him.

his favorite bands are Air Supply and Phil Collins era
Genesis.

"I 'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you
I know you were right believing for so long
I 'm all out of love, what am I without you
I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong

I want you to come back and carry me home
Away from this long lonely nights
I'm reaching for you, are you feeling it too
Does the feeling seem oh so right
And what would you say if I called on you now
And said that I can't hold on
There's no easy way, it gets harder each day
Please love me or I'll be gone, I'll be gone."

all hail! I can't believe no one's said it.
Radiohead is great but they don't hold a candle to the
genius that is Autechre. Muahahaha!
Sonic Youth is great, I can see how they would also be a
contender.

kenny g!!!
no doubt about it!
i am continually amazed at that man's refusal to conform his
unique musical vision (as well as a distinct image) to the
demands of today's marketplace.
his mastery of the clarinet and the tenor saxophone knows no
equals. he has yet to produce a single mishap in all of his
musical output. every single one of his full-length albums
is a 5 star winner!
