Guys, I never heard of SS til I came here. Since you people
seem to get so much out of it and it appears not to be a
virus-sharing program like kazaa/kazaa lite, I am
thinking of checking it out but..

I'm on a 56k dial up and my ISP boots me every 2
hrs
.

Would I be put in a queue only to get booted cos my 2 hrs is
up just as my download begins at like 4kb/s?

I can reconnect immediately when booted so if it can
resume that would be ok, or would I get stuck straight to
the back of the queue again, or worse, have to begin from
scratch cos there IS no resume? (Surely there is..)

Finally, what about most users' attitudes to dial up users?
Would they - like in WinMX - boot you cos you take too
long?

Well, thanks for advice :)

Well:

- there IS resume, so if you get booted you start from where
you left off, but it IS possible to be queued up again.

- sometimes people do boot you but it's rare ( although I am
on CABLE, i give the little guys a chance)

- for the most part every person is very nice on slsk
provided you share your files

- it's the best file sharing prog out there, deffinatly
worth checking out

well i dont download from 56k modems coz it takes longer
than it does for santa to grow his beard if he got wasted at
a party and somebody shaved his jolly white growth off.

Heh

Ah so if I have little to offer myself then I may get booted
for that?

As you can imagine, on a 56k I have not got into the habit
of collecting much music onto my comp.. it's you lot that
are giving me the itch with all these new names I wanna
check out.

Mind you, at the end of the day it's no biggy since I can
get those freebies ya get on most sites I suppose :/

Nah I'm saying there's an option to "not share your files".
So if someone trys to browse your files and they see NO
FILES SHARED they get pissed off and will boot you from
downloading. If you have your files shared even though you
only have a few it's all good.

i am on 56k (well, 28k actually) and i am rarely online for
more than two hours at one time, and i have never had any
problems with getting booted by high-speed users on
soulseek.

booted frequently (about every 4 hours but sometimes in 20
minutes)......but I still d/l ever so quietly in the night;
and it seems to go a lot faster than you realize.......
