my parents = lame

I finally convinced my parents to watch Requiem for a
Dream.

After about 20 minutes they were wandering around the house
not paying attention and saying "I don't get it".

So fucking lame.

jennifer connelly is co-starring in it...that should make it
watchable

nacmat: yes, definately see it. BUT it was the most
depressing movie i have ever seen (depressing, not sad), so
be prepared.

sorry. it was depressing AND sad. dancer in the dark was
sad.

i didn't sit down and think "man my parents need to see
this, and they better like it"

They came in my room and asked to watch one of my DVDs so I
recommended Requiem.

haha, my parents watched that movie w/ me... and said that
the main character reminded them of my friend steve, who by
coincidence used to be a heroin addict, which i told them
next time he stopped by my mom initiated the dumbest drugs
conversation i've ever heard her have (and she put me in
rehab twice) it was definately a very revealing experience,
now i just watch stuff like harry potter and lord of the
rings with them, easier to talk about afterwards
but i will say at least they sat through it and 'got it'

i doubt my parents would "get it"... my dad might, he can be
pretty open minded, but would most likely fall asleep 20
mins into it. my mom probably wouldn't enjoy, she's kinda
squeamish.

i suppose i understand...
my parents were like that when i was younger, i found out
recently a lot of times it wasn't 'cause they weren't 'hip'
to the scene, but more along the lines that they were
flabergasted that i was

maybe it's a similar situation with you? i'm unsure how i'd
react watching a movie about heroin addiction w/ my kids and
realizing they already thought they knew all there was to
know about said dangerous substances

I like Bjork and all but Dancer in the Dark was horrible...
Put the camera on ME!!! No no... ME ME ME ME!

Probably the director's fault... but whatever.

Pi was fabulous. Requiem I didn't think was as good as Pi,
but it was still very very good. Some great camera work
there, some of the best "shock value" shots I've seen in a
long time. Any film that FORCES you to think about things
the way that one does has two thumbs up in my book.

Tell your parents that you'll start shooting heroin unless
they watch the movie start to finish and can take a quiz on
it afterwards.

excellent, but wouldn't it be more intelligent to threaten
with mdma? that's all the rage nowadays, with the glowsticks
and the raves and the orange monkeys, pink cadillacs, and
other stupid pill names that sound like 80's band names

requiem for a dream is not a family flick

but yeah, everyone should see it
it's very good and very stark and teaches a lesson a lot of
movies are scared of addressing...

plus, jennifer connelly is a total fox
so, naturally, is her boyfriend

requiem for a dream is not a family flick

that's putting it lightly. what the fuck was he thinking?
seems like teenage angst to me, having his parents watch
that film.

i think if my mom wanted to see a movie that i liked, i
would probably recommend something more along the lines of
the usual suspects, or maybe american beauty.

probably not something that involved ass fucking.

hee hee hee
well here's something: I watched it with my 'rents. they're
lovely, brilliant people. we talked about what it meant. my
dad hated it, but he just hates sadness.
but most parents.. stick with your basic "cider house rules"
hollywood style tone-downage. yes?
