Just realised I'd cocked up the dates for something I had to do for this year of my degree and I've missed the deadline by over a week! Still not managed to get in touch with my tutor as he's in a meeting today. I've been ill, which work will confirm, but any other ideas of how to explain this?
Should I just be honest and say I thought the deadline was 9th July rather than June?
It's pretty important as it affects my final degree grade and is one years worth of work. Suggestions welcome as I'm mentally kicking myself in the shins repeatedly. Cheers.

Be honest mate. If you've got the work to give them then it's all good. They shoul've sent out reminders anyway if you're not actually at the Uni. So they're partially to blame.

All I can think of is a good chat with the tutor. Is he a reasonable man? Maybe you can still persuade him to give you a chance to hand in your work after the deadline. He will understand the importance of this matter as your degree depends on it. You do have it finished don't you? Tell him that. And make clear that you can hand in your work anytime he wants. Also do your best to come across as if you're really mad at yourself for forgetting it. At the moment I cannot think of anything better. Best of luck mate!

when people said that "honesty was the best policy" that statement was also a lie: eat loads of polo mints and it will give you the mega shits. the doctor will confirm you are seriously ill if you tell him the blood in your poo really worried you so your excuse is water-tight plus in cases of bad illness they bump your work up a grade.
if the tutor won't cut you slack pretend to cry and squeeze your guts as hard as you can, forcing a jet of arse gravy through your trousers. he will have no option but to help you, because there is no sight sadder than a shit-stained grown-man crying (well, impotence would make it sadder but you get the point)

I'd stress the ill factor... if you can get a sick note from a doctor (bit late but worth a try) that could help? Any family crisis's you could exaggerate? If in doubt, cry. Or offer up your body.
seriously tho', good luck. :)

Yeah, I reckon I will just be honest...
Ambsace: It's a git, I've been working full time this year, looking to return to uni in september. Thing is it's easy to neglect the university work whilst working full time. Fortunately I've done the vast majority of the big commentary on my year. Just got to buy some stationary tonight and get on the case. Looks like a night of staying up till 4.00am+ doing coursework, just like the "good" old days.
Got a pretty tight schedule, get home, buy a big envelope, stay up finishing it all of and binding it. Tommorow, take lunch early to get to the post office for recorded delivery of the file...

There are two staff members concerned, the tutor is v. friendly and reasonable and shouldn't be a problem. The "overseer" is also a decent guy, strict but fair. I've done well in both their modules so they ought to cut me a bit of slack.
I supppose I'm mainly angry at myself as I had it all in hand and when the tutor visited he even said, "No need to rush it, what you've done already is fine and you have months left to finish it." that got me sort of complacent. If it hadn't been to nice a day to play CS this lunchtime I wouldn't have even seen the letter that reminded me of the date!

There is a third option- my tutors daughter goes to a college that is a client I deal with. I could alter her grades in exchange for him turning a blind eye to this ;)
I wouldn't do that though- the guy is straight as an arrow and he'd probably try to get me kicked out of uni & work for even suggesting it :P

you can demonstrate your impotence by crying like a little girl and jerking your as-recently-used-as-a-betamax penis to no avail, sobbing the words "i'm useless! mummy, please i can't get it up! oh my dick! my, dead, dead dick! i'm not a real man! ..." trailing off into incoherence as you fall to your knees squeezing your useless skin nozzle which will never respond. i expect...

Don't give up hope yet. last week we (me and the group I am in) almost got expelled from school because we were busted for fraud a second time (2x fraud >>> kicked from school). But after a long talk with the teacher we got off with a warning instead of a (2nd) official fraud note.
Kinda stupid of us to do :\

Computing. This year is optional, but now I've chosen it I cannot pass my degree without this bit of work- that's why I'm so worried... theoretically I could have to do another years full time work and then go back to uni (highly unlikely, but if uni were gits they could make me do it!) which would not be possible for various financial reasons and I'd end up in more debt than I could afford.
*single man seeks wealthy, moderately attractive woman for loving relationship to fund him through final year of uni should it be too late to submit this work*
Anyway, I'll know the result in 2 hours, I've managed to find out when the tutor will be available :D

you can call it a cowards way out, i call it "mitigating circumstances", ie heavy workload due to full time employment, illness etc. "I forgot" is not a mitigating circumstance, unfortunately. I've been there myself and a friendly tutor will ask you to provide a reason for him to pass on to his superiors to be taken into account. Previous good working standards and good ralations with tutor will also help of course.

Mental- just rang back and the tutor happened to be in the general office and was actually asking for my details to contact me- the meeting he was in was about this project and I was one of the "good students" who hadn't handed it in yet so he was keen to chase it up. He sounded pretty pissed off at me, but he'll accept it and I don't think they'll dock too many marks.
I've been given the rest of the afternoon off to get cracking on it and my manager's report glowed! Sweet, eh?
Yay! It has all worked out perfectly.

My flatmate used his grandad dying (despite it happening after the deadline!) as mitigating circumstances. I'm generally adverse to unis being too lax, but if there's a good reason fair enough. Personally I would have docked a fair whack of marks off me, but I'm not complaining ;)
