So, what albums stand out in your minds as far as the
rhythm and percussion is concerned, and why? And try to add
more then just Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, or Autechre if you
can! :)

I really love the album Security by Peter Gabriel... it's
maybe his first full album of songs heavily influenced by
world music, and it just sounds so tribal and cool...
especially the first song Rhythm of the Heat, such a cool
beat anyways, but then towards the end it just breaks out
into this awesome percussion solo type thing... great
stuff!! I also really love the track Lay Your Hands on Me...
again it has a great beat, but also in this track the bass
part is awesome... it's kinda like fragments of a bass part
that repeat... it's cool...

also, the whole of The Long Walk Home, again by Peter
Gabriel, is great for rhythm and percussion... more so then
his other soundtrack Passion...

hehe, I love Peter Gabriel yes, but he has always had a
fascination with rhythms and stuff, so it's no wonder his
music expresses this...

Speaking of Jega I'm seeing him next month. Along with
Squarepusher, Mu-ziq and luke vibert. July is going to be
amazing.

Dude, you seriously ought to listen to Kate Bush. The
Dreaming and Hounds Of Love are amazing in their rhythmic
depth.

Weather Report were a great band, esp if it's about rhythm
and percussion...even now sounds fresh and innovative.

it's been really hard for me to find stuff that would
measure up to such artists as Squarepusher, Aphex or Amon,
and i am lucky to have found it with WR... (the funniest
thing here is that WR is NOT idm, you understand :)
their rhythms are so excellent and complex 'cause they
always used a lot of percussion on their albums, i even can
hear sometimes jungle and hip hop beats, really! :)

and i think hardly any words can describe their music, so
the best thing here is to try listening to it...(any
album)
"Live & Unreleased" is a worthy compilation

well, all of prefuse73's albums..duh..

populous' album 'quipo'
dabrye's 'one/three'
el-p's 'fantastic damage'
aim's 'hinterland'
the telescopes' 'third wave'
phoenecia's 'brownout'

do make say think and the sea and cake both have really
tight percussion as far as more rock oriented bands go

manitoba is really good rhythm/percussion-wise too, as
someone said.. when i saw him/them live.. there were two
drummers that just went off the handle

and you probably already know the cinematic orchestra..

Good to see WR get a mention...

That was one name always mentioned during Squarepushers
early days...easy to hear their influence on him...

nod, I love Cinematic Orchestra... and one main reason was
because of the drumming on Everyday... My feelings about it
were always like "Hey, this is cool, not just a straight
swing beat!"... and it still is... it has some cool rhythms
for jazz... although it does swing in a lot of places on
there... just love that album!

also, speaking of jazz in a rhythm thread, you can't forget
Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet... that whole album is
such a treat to listen to, because the rhythms are just
totally awesome... yet it's so gorgeous as well... really
cool that a song like Take Five, which is in 5/4 time, can
swing so well!
