that Radiohead arre NOT pop got this rresponce frrom some
RH fan...ok... i cant take it no more. (sorrrry its a bit
long, but i'd like like to know what you think)

all you fucking twats who think you are cool by thinking
radiohead are above pop music... you guys seriously make me
embarrassed to call myself a radiohead fan in the fear id be
lumped with the egotistical elitist assholes which dominate
this board.

radiohead are the best pop band since nirvana. creep alone
justifys this position. it is not only one of the best pop
songs of the past 10 years, its one of the all time great
pop songs. fake plastic trees, high and dry, the bends would
follow it shortly. Paranoid Android then began to stretch
even further the pop genre. surely it must go down as one of
the greatest moments in pop music history that a song with
three seemingly unrelated musical sections and lyrics about
'kickin screamin gucci little piggys' can break into the
british pop charts top three.

pyramid song - one of the most beautiful pop songs ever.
even stuff of kid a, so often dismissed as too hard to get,
has some wonderful pop songs on it. idioteque, how to
disappear and perhaps most brilliantly of all, motion
picture sountrack were the pop songs which pushed the genre
in ways it hadnt been pushed since pet sounds.

nowadays radiohead are probably more a pop band than they
have been since the bends. certainly for pure acessibility,
not since karma police have radiohead been this accessible.
the fact that there, there stayed in the british top 20
after its second week is more than enough evidence of
radioheads existance as a pop band. the general public are
still buying radiohead in their masses, it is not just the
hardcore fans.

radiohead are the best and most important pop band since
nirvana. that much is fact. in my opinion, they are the
greatest pop band of all time surpassing the beatles and
beach boys.

Some people don't seem to realise that "pop" no longer
refers to "popular music" as it did years ago- it is now a
genre that is defined by throwaway, manufactured music where
the "singer" is invariably good looking and well dressed.

Just because something does well in the charts, doesn't mean
it's pop- Tomkraft - Loneliness has enjoyed moderate chart
success recently, but it is definately not "pop music" same
can be said for The White Stripes- they're popular indie
rock, not pop music.

NB: I don't mind pop on principle, I won't not listen to
something, just because it's pop and hence "uncool". I
freely admit I enjoyed a lot of Shakira's stuff, even though
it is undeniably pop.

That was the point I trried to get acrross but he was not
having it. I began to think i was wrrong.

me
"Radiohead are not pop. Pop is a genre, it does not apply to
everyband that is popular. once it may have, but not now."

him
"yes it does. if a band is popular then they are a pop
band,
because they dont make cheesy music like a majority of shit
thats around these days doesnt mean they arent pop. with a
few top ten hits and number 1 albums they are and always
will be a pop band"
