'You could, if you had Richard D. James' notoriety.'

what a cunt rdj is.

Agreed.

I used to purchase an RDJ release without hearing any of it
because I knew it would be quality...these days I am not too
sure. I felt slightly let down by Drukqs, disappointed by
26 mixes and by the sounds of things the situation is
getting worse...

oh well...

i think the heavy weights of IDM will go too far up thier
own asses... and we will see a new generation of producers
emerge.

I liked Drukqs... but 26 remixs was kinda boring
draft 730 isnt anything new
do you know squarepusher was ok, but just more dsp wankery
Geogaddi was great... but unless they evolve in thier next
record... it will be a shame

i dont know... it just seems like the excitement isnt in the
big boys anymore

it astounds me to this day how people can slag 26 mixes...
it shouldn't have been new to anyone!!!!! a bunch of remixes
from the mid-90s is hardly indicative of his current
direction.

anyway, i'll prolly pass on this EP now. thanks spikee.

No one has really discussed the main track here. OK it's a
remix, -but is it a good track or what? What kind of beats
are on it? Is it all dancehall'd up?

the clip i just listened to sounds like drukqs programming
w/ the a capella from the bug track.. i liked it but it's
not essential. i'm not a record collector, just a music fan.

I didn't mean I was disappointed with the tracks, there are
some that I really like. I meant it felt like a lazy
release...he could have included a few more new remixes on
there and got rid of some of the shitter stuff like the DMX
Crew remix.

the dmx crew one is one of the best imo -
with all this stuff about smojphace- only 1 of yos has heard
it and you've already decided you don't like it
what a bunch of ignorant sheep - can't you make up your own
minds ?
i'm sure it's a bit more than just some old noise and i
heard one of the rephlex lot dj the bug remix track and it's
unbelivabley good and aggro

agreed, i was gutted when the warp-promised "30+ tracks"
became 26, but think about it logistically: there wasn't
really enough room on two discs for over 30 tracks. but more
importantly, some artists wouldn't clear the tracks (ie:
beck, who's mad at richard for not doing a charity show he
organized) or couldn't find the masters. i would've liked to
have heard this mysterious lemonheads "remix" (some old
track he gave them) and the remix he supposedly did for
craig david, but maybe richard lost them. you know how
unorganized he is: spilling orange juice on his master
tapes, picking the first 2 songs on a tape for the bonus
tracks on the reissued SOSW, etc.

anyway, besides the above problems, if anyone is to be
blamed for the "lazy" idea--which just got me 26 remixes
ranging from "ok" to "amazing" in my collection for under
$17--it should be warp, not richard. warp were the ones who
made richard release a DOUBLE album (drukqs) and i'm sure
this was their idea too. richard seems pretty content
releasing very little (MEN1, MEN2) or nothing at all.

i'm saying i'll download it instead of buy it. as usual, if

from what i know it was released cos some other company was
going to release a comp without asking afx's permission -so
warp took it upon themselves to do it - i think it's fucking
good value for money - and it's never been marketed as a new
album .

to licence tracks you need permission from the record
company or the artist who did the remix to get them - if yu
can't you simply can't get them - so that's why the 26 mixes
is slightly incomplete I reckon -
as for the craig david thig that was so clearly another
bullshit rumour i'm suprised you fell for it

Titsworth: Beck wanted to release the remix to WARP, but
Beck's label, not Beck wouldn't do it.

The orange juice thing is a falsehood as well.

Astrid's right as well - WARP had to literally rush to get
26 mixes out the door as another label was trying to do a
compilation of his remixes.

I'm right as I was told this by several reliable,
independent sources - this isn't Chinese whispers.

What most fans don't realize is a lot of what gets passed
around gets distorted, or journos fabricate bits or take
what Richard says jokingly as the god's honest truth.

Richard is also very, very good at marketing himself/his
music, and building up a whole mythos around your persona
and winding the fans up with fantastic stories makes them
hungry for more. It's all part of the Aphex Package, and why
he's been more financially successful than his
contemporaries who may produce better music.

i don;t think it's part of the aphex package really - i
think it's actually just the media tend to write about how
mad he is and how he's got a tank etc .
it's cos they can only ordinarily handle rock music so they
can't cope with people like him ..
also i can only think of autechre who make totally
different music for different reasons and maybe luke vibert
and squarepusher who are in the same league as the aphex
twin - they're pretty succesful as well i imagine

actually I like it.
the bug remix takes a track that is excellent to as good as,
yet nice. the noise tracks complement satansornade nicely,
thou I have to admit i was a bit let down (mainly through
listening to it first thing this morning) but at the same
time it is definately nice to have, even if only for the
main track..

did anyone get an APC ghostlawns promo with it? I like that
more than the AFX disc atm

ps, the bug single is very good and definately worth
checking out..

heh i got it just before leaving for work, so i was kinda
rushed to listen to it while getting dressed. already
listened once, now i'm on kpta2 for the second time.

first listen - a bit dissappointed, even the bug remix
didn't strike my fancy, and kpta1 & 2 needed to be analyzed

second listen - enjoying the bug track, 1 & 2 are better

third listen through headphones - enjoying much more, but
definately not my fav. afx. the noise is interesting, and i
enjoy hearing interesting tracks. for me, it doesn't
necessarily need to be music, but rather something that can
hold my attention. these tracks do that, but it's not
something i'll be listening to very often.

i bought the vinyl b/c i LOVE vinyl. but if you're
skeptical, d/l from soulseek first!
