Does anyone know what software Alex used to synchronise the Gantz Graf video? I don't mean modelling, like Maya or 3dsMax... I mean the synching side of things...

I think God may have given him some sort of special program to do that with. I can't fathom how he did anything in that video.

it's fucking astounding... I work with a bunch of Motion Graphics peeps who I rate very highly, and no one has any fuckin' idea how it was done! the actual design and modelling is simple enough... but the synching is insane!

I literally broke that track down into pages of numbers, like a wacky professor from the Muppet Show, Dr Bunsen. Sheets of paper with loads of numbers on them, (key frames). Although they weren't random, they were related, indicative of certain parts of that scene, certain parts of that track. And I literally had to animate to those numbers, and keep rendering it off, and rechecking it and re-tweaking it to make sure everything worked in time, it's that simple...
Everyone says 'how long did it take you?' How did you do it, they always want to ask me technical questions. I'd really love to be able to say to them, 'I just wrote a computer algorhythym (sic), and the computer did it all. I wrote a program and it all just intelligently works it out,' but it doesn't exist, it's fools gold thinking that someone can sit there writing a piece of software that can make intelligent decisions about pace and animation, the closest I have seen is perhaps itunes.

i worked with him at a design/post production studio a few years ago. I was working on some interactive web stuff. I remember him sitting there every day with his headphones on, listening to screeching noises whilst doing that video, it must have taken him like 4 months or something. he'd be working till 9 o'clock every night! I dont know much about video pp but i think he used 3dsmax to do the animation

Alex Rutterford is ........... His video for Amon Tobin's 'Verbal' is really fine too. Fine editing.
And his 'Go to Sleep' for radiohead is amazing, at least technically. See it here:
http://www.beam.tv/beamreels/reel_player.php?jSDJQVbgGN Gantz is still his best work. Hard to do it better.
