well, im not looking to re-invent the wheel here. just making my contribution to the music world. it's an idea that stuck, and has been nagging at me to do. so, i listen to that voice.
btw: i would like to personally invite mr. ochre to participate in this project, if it interests him. i have been listening to alot of his stuff lately, and find it a refreshing presence in the "idm" community. i don't think i have heard a track by him yet i haven't thought was top-notch. so i am just putting that out there. if he is busy, not interested, etc. i will understand.

ok, we discussed it... it's a cool thing, let's do this! :)
it'll be a part of the official xltronic vibes series :)
i just have a little critisism for the topic title, since it was not official at that time, but now it is, so that's ok! :)
but think about it in future

Okay...just a small technical note on loss of quality.
The average phone line bandwidth (frequency spectrum) is from about 300Hz to about 3.3KHz. What this means is that at the best of conditions a signal fed at the transmitting end (stop here is you are scared of technical details) will appear to be band pass filtered at the other end.
So a nice 808 reverse kick sub-bass will be ruined and appear to be a wind blowing at the other end. A vast amount of post filtering at the other end will replace the quality of the signal. The way to do this to do this is to implement a phone line equalizer...a very expensive and noisy proposition...noisy in that, it would be very very lossy and making a active equaliser is quite out of the question for the bandwidth in consideration.
So in short, what you end up with is a situation like on Gesscom's Minidisc record, where the samples are gonna be quite shitty and you are gonna have to make the compositions work with that.
Sampling at 28 or 192...or even sending the wave file will not be useful. And signal sent over a telephone line will get bandpass filtered to the frequencies between 300 and 3300 Hz. For those that plan to use this information in their music...the Q factor is quite low..about 0.3. This means that the center frequency of the telephone line as a filter is about 900Hz.So there you have it.
Filter constants: Resonant frequency = 900Hz Badwidth = 3000Hz Q = 0.3 Lower cut off frequency = 300Hz Upper cut off frequency = 3300Hz

hahahahahahahahah yeah dude, we are using the telephone at all. hahahahahah what?!?!? no no no. wow, that would be a crappy project alright! ok, yeah... that's what i thought. i didnt figure there should be any degrading of information. wow. hehehehe dont feel dumb, dude. it was a mistake someone was bound to make.
well, we still dont have an official subtitle for this, so any suggestions are welcome.
something like: "xltronic vibes 6: blah blah blah"
sine: yeah, i told phob i was sorry about that if it bothered him. like i said, i started the topic with the intent of seeing who would actually participate, and felt if i didnt make it WOW enough that no one wouldve responded. sorry again, i didnt mean to be deceptive or anything.
wow! so this is actually gonna be xlt vibes 6!!!! cool beans! im excited!
one last piece of business. i think that even though i am organizing this, maybe someone else should do the first track. i just think i might feel more comfortable doing mine that way. so, if anyone WANTS to be the one to start, let me know.
i still have to make up the "official guidelines" (i wont call them rules) for this thing, before we can really get started (so everyone knows whats going on). i will also be making a member order chart that will be posted here. expect that information shortly.

well what happened was this "mystery artist" gave out samples of one track and some one remixed, they passed it on and the next person remixed that, etc untill it got back to the original mystery artist (who turned out to be stereo lab) and they did a the last track
i think mike p. was on it but i don't know which name he used

ok. i'm sorry to say it, but until someone pulls out (which someone undoubtedly will) it looks like i'm gonna have to close this off. when this happens, i have a few people in mind who didnt submit forms ill be asking to join in. anyway, i'll be posting the guidelines and participant order as soon as phob gives me the final okey-dokey. he helped me figure out how to make this more efficient, and dare i say, a better idea all together. you'll see when i post that stuff then... it's gonna be rad. plus, in the next day or so, i'll be posting a sneak preview of the artwork, which is almost done already (minus tracklisting and times). anyway, sorry to those of you who didn't get in the door right away... like i said, innevetably someone will drop out. when they do, i'll be knocking on some doors. peace out.

XLTRONIC VIBES No.6 OFFICIAL RULES & MEMBER ORDER:
ok, here's the basic jist of things... first person creates a track. when done, it will be either posted on a site or sent via email to
me. he will also create a zip file of a sample pack. ONLY once i have recieved the track and
ok'ed it, will the sample pack will be sent to the next member, who will create his track around
these sounds and loops. i want to make this clear: a new sample pack must be made by each member
at completion of their track. we are NOT passing the same pack around. this process should allow
greater change to occur from piece to piece. also: those of you who are neither able to transfer
large files via email, and ALSO do not have a page to host your tracks on (this only applies 3 of
you), you will need to get one for this. go to zebox.com and set up an acount. it's quick, free,
and painless. if you don't do this, i can't see how you plan on participating in this project.
participant will have approximately 2 - 2 1/2 weeks to complete his/her track. if you need more
time, i will give it to you, but i need to know you are actually working on it. don't wait until
day 12 to start working, then ask for more time. if you jerk me around, i'll skip you. i don't
think these rules are unreasonable. if we all put our best effort into this, it should turn out
wonderfully. the track order of the finished mix will obviously be the order they were made in.
i will be making a cover for this once it is done. maybe another member (teapot?) will be a pal
and put it up for me. if there are any questions at all, feel free to IM me (tibbar5179) or email
me (tibbar@comcast.net). below you will find the list of member order so far. new people will be
added to the end of this list. remember, i will be over-seeing the entire process, so keep me
well-informed of any changes, problems, etc. that may need my attention. as curious as you might
get, please make sure you have your blinders on here. the only thing you should be h

(continued) the only thing you should be hearing is the track right before yours. i believe isolation of yourself from the others work will enhance the
results. i ask this out of respect for the project. we're going to split everything off into 2
groups. Jaroen is first. his track and zip pack will be given to both r40f and evolume. they will
continue to work down through their respective groups until we end up with both ochre and
glasse's tracks given to me. i will then create my track from BOTH of their sample packs. i hope
none of you are confused. if so, just use the chart below for reference. JAroen is first.
JAroen, you may commence work on your track anytime you're ready. have fun!!!
participant order: --------------------- 1) JAroen
2) r40f (works from JAroen) 3) xceque (works from r40f) 4) Q4Z2X (works from xceque) 5) ambsace (works from Q4Z2X) 6) sanguine (works from ambsace) 7) skink (works from sanguine) 8) qrter (works from skink 9) glasse (works from qrter)
2) evolume (works from JAroen) 3) teapot (works from evolume) 4) tallyho (works from teapot) 5) sadist (works from tallyho) 6) nate tarrant (works from sadist) 7) humbleice (works from nate tarrant) 8) korben dallas (works from humbleice) 9) ochre (works from korben dallas)
10) tibbar (works from korben dallas and glasse)
therefore, the track listing should look like this: ------------------------------------------------------ 1) glasse (a brief history of glass) 2) qrter 3) skink 4) sanguine 5) ambsace 6) Q4Z2X 7) xceque 8) r40f (sick to the back teeth) 9) JAroen 10) evolume 11) teapot (xanpha) 12) tallyho 13) sadist (jecky hellfish) 14) nate tarrant (locus) 15) humbleice (one lonely guy) 16) korben dallas (mepq) 17) ochre 18) tibbar (when played on repeat, this should flow right back into glasse's track)
