so yeah, what do you guys think is a good place to start
for someone that hasnt listened to them before?

what was it that got you into them?
for me it was lp5, but now that has become one of my least
favourite autechre releases..
thats not to say that it isnt awesome, of course

listen to all the albums in chronological order. each album
is more abstract and less "listenable" (to ae n00bs ;) )than
the previous.

check their background. I mean, if someone has an ambient
background you better not start with Gantz Graf or so...

Autechre's album "Amber" is what got me into electronic
music in the first place. I walked into a record store in
rathmines for no real reason (was mitching school and had
nothing to do) and it was playing, went up and asked what it
was and made a note of it.. This was in a time when I was
still into very heavy metal and rock and *dispised*
electronic music.

It's still one of my favourites.. Definatly essential
autechre. Incunabula, LP5, Tri Repetae and the anti & anvil
vapre eps are essentials. I don't like the new confield /
gantz graf / draft 7.30 stuff too much...

I buy a random CD by AE with every warpmart order or so now.
I didn't used to like them but tracks like MilkDX,
VLetrmx21, Vose In, Eidetic Casein and Gantz Graf got me
listening to them more. Very cool sounds.

Start with Tri-repetae ++

If you want more abstract stuff, check out everything
released after Tri repetae.
If you want simpler stuff, go backwards from Tri repetae.

I personally can't see what is so special about tri
repetae... it's by far my least favorite Autechre album...
just can't stand most of it... just seems so boring...
overall the melodies seem mediocre, as do the beats and
stuff... a few sweet tracks, but nothing special at all
imo...

it's some easy listening, but thats not a bad thing...its
got a steely vibe...i think it's got some striking melodies
though.
