oh check out their album Trace, its their best. I cant even listen to their older stuff now because when compared to Trace they aren't as brilliantly produced and they are overly trying to be like Skinny Puppy. But Trace is brilliant.

I personally think Autechre have the best sense of melody... that they show in the music they've released anyways... they're always talked about for their experimentation, and beats mostly, and I think their melodies are sometimes forgotten... Amber is the showcase of this... absolutely gorgeous... but even more recently, songs like Corc, Pen Expers, and P.:NTIL show off their killer melodic sense...

Autechre have my favorite melodies, you're always picking out new thingies in the mix and saying to yourself, ''well I'll be damned! Goddamned!''. And then, forever more, that ''new thingie'' becomes something to look forward to each subsequent listen.
But McCartney >>>>>>>> Autechre

Autechre are brilliant, McCartney is as well, but I put Squarepusher at the top…Tom’s tunes are outstanding (and standing out ;)
And also I put here Jaco Pastorius, though it’s more of a jazz-funk-oriented thing… his “Portrait Of Tracy” is one of the best tunes ever, you’ve got to hear this bass track to believe me. You won’t be disappointed :)

Boards of Canada!
In other genres, Roni Size has a pretty good sense of melody too (listen to the harps on the "sound advice" AA side).
