Yes, there are probably loads of threads about this album, but I'm too lazy to search...
I can't get over how good this is... this is probably my favorite autechre album... not a bad track on it at all... it's one of my favorite electronic albums of all time too... the melodies are just so gorgeous... even the percussion sounds great mostly... maybe a bit dated in some places, but not too much... it's a huge improvement upon Incunabula in this respect... Incunabula sounds really dated, but this one hardly does at all... such a relaxing listen to, in my mind... I love it to death!!
Favorite tracks: Montreal, Slip, Glitch, Piezo, Yulqueen, Teartear
but they're all good really!!

I love their newer releases... but damn, I wish they'd release another album with a focus on beautiful melody...

I think my favorites on there are Glitch and Slip - Slip is the happiest sounding track they've ever done.
The rest of the album doesn't really turn my crank.

Yeah, Amber is an awesome album. 'Nil' and 'Slip' are unbelieveable tunes. It's a shame more people like their new approach as opposed to their first three albums.
How I wish they would go back and touch on that style once again.

Ae has always been *cold* (except some of the very beginning tracks maybe i don't know)...
- but what Amber had, and that the newer Ae misses nowadays, is beauty.

yeah, maybe... you're probably right. i love Confield but i have problems with Ae not growing on me (with other artists i have tracks growing on me, but with Ae the first impression is almost always the right one, for some unknown reason). nevermind then. : )

...and maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why a lot of people seem to think their music is cold. I think LP5, Confield, and Draft 7.30 have a lot of warmth flowing through them.

amber is actually brilliant. i thought it was average for ages.. i only got into it recently, and it's awesome.
uzim, i think modern ae is just beautiful as anything else they have done, just not beatiful in the same way. chiastic slide for example, contains some of their most beautiful work. each release, though, is beatiful in its own way. i wouldn't say they were as cold as you made out either, look at envane, cichlisuite, and some of ep7.

amber its not my fav ae but its still almost a perfect album for me... I mean saying its not my fav ae album it may sound as if I didnt like it very much but it really is one of my all time favs, its just that ae has done so many other incredible albums or eps.
about tracks I am amazed of how "nine" hardly ever gets mentioned here as a fav track.
for me incunabula doesnt sound dated btw (nor does amber)

i'm listening to it now. i guess why i don't totally love this album is that it just sounds too easy. It just sounds extremely MIDI which i imagine is because that was the peak of technology when the album was made. Not enough interesting synthesis. It is more effects dependant, mostly flangers and reverb.
So, for it's time, its great. but now it just sounds kinda dated and boring.
out of 10 i give it a 5.5 i guess.
