Are there any Fax addicts around here? I've been buying
mainly Fax back-catalogue stuff on eBay recently, very
rewarding it is too...if a bit pricy!

It is a label! :-)

http://music.hyperreal.org/labels/fax/

Pete Namlook owns it and has a part in most
releases...artists you might have heard of who have albums /
collaborations on it are...

Speedy J
Jonah Sharp
Tetsu Inoue
Richie Hawtin
Mixmaster Morris / Irresistible Force

But be warned, it could become an addiction... :-)

also www.2350.org is a fantastic resource, all releases
listed by artist / date / project....and ALL reviewed!!!
:-)

And no I dunno html! :-)

Some of it is "IDM" as we know it...some is ambient (no or
few beats) and some early stuff is trancey, but good,
mind...very varied stuff...if you have a look on the Fax
site there's a bit that tells how to spot which style it is
by which colour is on the front of the album cover(!)

All the Fax albums are limited (500 - 3000 copies, the
earlier the fewer) but the more popular ones get rereleased
on a sublabel (Ambient World)

I recommend checking out

From Within (Pete Namlook and Richie Hawtin)

Dreamfish (PN and Mixmaster Morris)

Silence (PN and Dr. Atmo)

for starters... :-)

The stuff I like from FAX are Namlook (ATOM HEART) and
Ambiant Otaku by Tetsu Inoue. :)

Ive only heard Jet Chamber V but I loved it and I happen to
be trying to track down some more.... ;)

What does it sound like...? Not one of those crazy FAX
releases where its 74mins of tone? ;D

What do you think of MD?

It's feckin A1...the first track "Biotrip" is the
highlight...24 minutes of pure dreamy ambience...highly
recommended...

Sorry but what's MD? Am I being dense?

MD is on the Merck label I think... sounds a bit like
Brothomstates. Just happen to have thought of MD when you
mentioned Namlook (listened to both artists this morning) ;)

Ah right, new one on me...anyway, must fly now...talk again!

P.S. Watch out for my useful (and yet criminally underused)
thread... :-)

Well.... anyone who happens to be interested in hearing some
FAX stuff:

http://www.discogs.com/label/Fax_-49-69_450464

Its a mixed bag so download first..... like I said you could
end up with a CD that is just silence or 74mins of tone. :)

Ten years ago, i was interested in it, i have bought many
fax CD's. I have sold them all. They released 1 item every
week--->total overdose

Pete Namlook's "Garden of Dreams" is still the best ambient
piece ever written, and no mistake.

It's off Namlook & Dr Atmo's 'Silence', PK25 ,
though I have it on a Rising High compilation called the
Artists Cut or some such thing.
