Can't listen to Aphex anymore...

i used to be into his music quite a lot for many years, got
many of his releases. but now, i think i got tired of his
stuff.

i never listen to 'icbyd' nor 'saw2' anymore.

'drukqs' wasnt fresh when it came out, but i liked it pretty
much. it's the only one i listen to now and then.

i bought '26 mixes for cash', but only listened to it twice
and found it to be pretty average. cant get into it at all.

'smojphace' is coming out and im not interested at all.

anyone had the same experience? help me!

i got into autechre at the same time, but i still listen to
everything they made quite often.

meh. i do this every once in awhile. although, strangely,
aphex has been a constant ever since i started listening to
his music six or so years ago.
so i'm not sure what to tell you. try not listening to his
music at all for six months, then come back to it. worked
with radiohead for me and completely revitalized my interest
in that band.

you sir, need to listen to Nannou again... and you'll
know... this artist does not fuck around... how can you get
sick and just stop listening to this music?

eventually, you'll regret putting RDJ's music a stop... and
you'll soon be like "god damn, i am missing a whole fuck
load of good music impulsing my ears!"

hah! right! just listen, and don't get tired of any of it!

Bah, don't worry about it, Cort.

As the others say, you'll get back around to him when the
right time gets here. Until then, yeah, try a new artist or
band.

Like Ozric Tentacles!

Hm... now that i think of it, it's been a long time since i
listened to any aphex myself. But i don't think i'm tired of
it... if i would put on one of his cd's on, i'm sure i would
enjoy it just as much as i always have. I'll try it today
:-)

I must say though, that i too am not very excited about the
smojphace-ep. I hope i'll be proven wrong and pleasantly
surprised when i finally hear it... but the prospect of
listening to one remix and two tracks with just noise
doesn't get me very excited...

but still... it is aphex twin.. so i haven't lost all
hope yet :-)

Yeah, I agree...

Didn't buy 26 mixes cause it seemed pointless and just one
to miss.

I want a new album of some new Aphex tracks.

Until then, he can piss off. Uness he re-releases all the
rare vinyls :)

you know the remix is gonna be the shit, and as for the
noise tracks, they have been sometimes described as
melodic/percussive, so... =)
as for being tired of afx, only you can solve the problem,
or your taste...

"Didn't buy 26 mixes cause it seemed pointless and just

"

Actually 26 mixes was alright... you're missing alot of
beautiful music :-) Maybe not as strong as a 'proper'
afx-album, but still very nice! It's like icbyd's little
brother :-p

2 remixes by afx is also one of my favourite afx-releases...
actually.

I think the reason i'm not excited about this one is that i
really don't like what i've heard from 'the bug' on the
rephlex-site.

"I want a new album of some new Aphex tracks."

Now that would get me excited :-)

" they have been sometimes described as
melodic/percussive, so... =)
"

Oh? Really? :-D That sounds alot better than just noise... i
usually love richard's melodies...

I'm not tired of afx. I've just bought alot of cd's
in the last months... which is probably why i've listened to
him less often.

I'm always finding that when you peer through your
collection, one catches your eye that hasn't been listened
to in a while...

Usually turns out to be great! :)

I get sick of Aphex aswell. And his 26 mixes ain`t that
amazing. But the guy is still great. I'm exploring other
music right now. It's like Floyd. I adore them, but don't
listen to them much now. But I know I will eventually and
it'll sound fresh and exciting!

26 mixes for cash is great, its a good purchase especially
if you like his old stuff

I have nothing new to say but still, this can work a a
summary:

1. change for a while, variety is what makes me love music
(not only variety in idm but in all styles and decades)

2. I understand your lack of trust towards the new ep, as
everybody is talking shit about it... but wait and judge
yourself.

3. I am sure we are very near to a new proper release by
him... a new album... I am quite sure... its about time you
know

4. aphex has done tones of diferent music, i mean you can
find variety even among his releases... so try stuff that
you have always had on second place... that works for me...

5. its not strange that you get tired of one artist or style
of music for a while, it happens to me sometimes... from
time to time I need to listen to orbital for weeks and after
that I dont play an orbital album in months

6. I am not gonna disccuss about this, but its obvious you
may be passing an aphex crisis, I mean, icbyd and saw II are
genious and fit in many moments... drukqs is no less genious
and 26 mixes is nice to listen to... very ambient, but also
hard old school sometimes and even pop... its like a journy
through last 10 years in electronica history

7. its not bad to have a crisis, go and listen to whatever
you like

even be bother to buy 26 mixes for cash tho. I'll probably
buy smojphace tho

thanks for all the comments.

must be a phase i guess, a long one. i just miss being
excited about listening to his music.

maybe it's because after a while, i start to listen less to
his music, and when new material comes out, i like it a lot
and it gets me back into aphex-mode. but since i didnt
enjoy 26 mixes for cash, it would explain why im just a
little bored by his music at the moment...

nah, he doesn't suck... I'm just sick of him... I used to

sounds so cheap!

if you are bored of what you have, buy something else! every
release is different you may find something you will like
more....and funkmaster, im getting the impression your bored
with him because youve heard something in the same style but
better....care to enlighten me?

Bah, you'll be listening to him again after a few weeks
break. I haven't listened to him in ages, but not because
I'm bored of him... I just have too much music to listen to
and too little time. I've never felt ''bored'' of an Aphex
album... or ANYTHING, really! I just take prolonged breaks
and I can listen to almost ANYTHING from my past, be it
Metallica or Weird Al, and entertained. 2 decades of Sgt.
Pepper and I'm only JUST starting to realize how remarkably
brilliant Fixing a Hole is after thinking it was the weak
link all this time.
