smokefree coffeeshops?

due to this new law here in the netherlands it will be
forbidden to smoke in a coffeeshop in 2004

i mean wtf?! isn't smoking the only reason people go there
(next to buying pot) ? it's like forbidding people in a pub
to drink or something...

Smoking is becoming sociablay unacceptable in lots of
places, as more and more people demand clean air to breath.
Its something that isn't going to stop, I personally don't
have a problem with this as I don't smoke myself, but I also
don't have a problem with people who do...hey...it's their
lungs at the end of the day!

Can you buy pot there then smooke it at home then?

I imagine you'll end up just with tobacconist type stores
that sell it...

a few coffeshops i know just have a little booth type thig
for selling with a different entrance than the actual
coffeshops, so its been gettig slowly seperated form the
socialisig area of the coffeshop

People demand clean air, but I don't see the fucking
governments noticably cutting industrial air pollution or
car pollution...it is a stupid PR exercise which impeads on
free will.

theres gonna be a big loss for the coffeeshops though, the
weed business is usually run by different enterprises.

i think the government really are trying to reduce the
ammount of coffeshops overall and it looks like if this ban
gets in theyll lose alot of income.
not that they need the income anyway.

I always hated sitting in coffeeshops. don't really know why
- maybe the kind of forced feeling that its supposed to be
relaxed.

yeh, me too, coffeshops can be a bit shit, full of
potheads.
the really commercial shops too are a nightmare.
they just want you in, buy a weed, have a drink and a joint
then Fuckoff. they dont want you in there longer than 30
minutes.
there was a time when you could go to any shop and just
chill, but no more.
theres only one or two where you can actually take it easy.

i dont smoke in coffeeshops anyway, but if you're that
attached to the place:

-eat some spacecake

-use a vaporizer (no smoke, no nicotine, no tar)

i dont mind this at all, although it does seem a bit
strange.

cigarettes will never be illegal, the governments make too
much money from the tax they put on it.
less cigarettes sold, less ambulances and cops...y'dig me?

smoking is retarded. I dont care of people smoke but I think
it is a good idea when its illegal in a place where you have
to smell it. for example, I think it should be illegal at
concerts because I mean everyone in the room is smoking like
50 packs of cigarettes and we are standing listening to
music possibly slowly dying, makes no fucking sense why
cigarettes were ever created if you ask me, I have less
problem with smoking other stuff but cigarette smoke makes
me feel like shit.

the restaurant i work in is nonsmoker by choice. the law in
montreal doesnt prohibit smoking. in ottawa and new york,
it does, though. no smoking in bars, restaurants, anywhere,
really. i'd like to see that. i hate going out to a club
and coming home and stinking like an ashtray. i stopped
going out because of that. i hate it. i wish montreal
would become nonsmoker... im glad that where i work is
nonsmoker. the end.

Machinegod, thats fucked that you'd deny other peoples
enjoyment of a gig cos you're afraid of a little bit of
second hand smoke.

just walking anywhere today you're inhaling all kinds of
shit, not just some persons secondhand smoke

nothing can stop you breathing in toxins apart from locking
yourself away in a bubble

but what difference does it make really though? i can
understand a nonsmoker getting a lung full of shite standing
next to someone but you know, stand somewhere else.

They shouldn't have to. They should be able to live without
having someone's toxic fumes poisioning them.

Well, there should be both, smoking areas that are enclosed
from the non smoking areas... but if anything, the smokers
should go out of their way to not endager the nonsmokers
health.

The more population we have in this world, the tighter the

only makes sense.

It's called respect. Respect for people's health. Im not the
dumb-ass smoking toxic fumes because im too weak and a slave
to em. If you can't understand why you shouldn't en-danger
other people's health, then fine.

I don't even really care because here most places are
forbiden to allow people to smoke. So it's all good.

smoking is gross... it should be banned from every public
place, if it's not already... smoking is something which
definitely does have negative effects on other people, and
so shouldn't be allowed in public places...

It's not about seperating people. It's about seperating
second hand smoke from people who do not want to inhale it.

It'll protect people's lungs from all the many poisons found
in cigarettes.

offline phiz from Liverpool (United Kingdom) on 2003-05-30 21:08 [#00721587]
Points: 2622 Status: Lurker

of course you're seperating people, all the smokers in one
box and all the nonsmokers in another box.

offline corrupted-girl on 2003-05-30 21:11 [#00721592]
Points: 8469 Status: Regular | Followup to phiz: #00721587

There's options... quit smoking, have a smoke then join the
non-smoking box, go without for a few hours...

god this is pathetic. you'd rather be seperated because of a
ridiculous addiction.. instead of not being a slave and
being with the people you would of been seperated from.

offline corrupted-girl on 2003-05-30 21:13 [#00721595]
Points: 8469 Status: Regular

You're a smoker though.. ofcourse you'll try to defend it.

Whatever.. honestly it doesn't effect me anymore because of
the laws and where I go.

offline phiz from Liverpool (United Kingdom) on 2003-05-30 21:47 [#00721634]
Points: 2622 Status: Lurker

so what about MY options?
I dont want to be seperated from nobody, but because YOU
decide you wouldnt associate with us non smokers you've cut
yourself off, and us off from experiencing you.

i dont want to wind you up, but you know, i do respect
peoples space, but theres only so far you can go, once
isolation starts of certian groups of people we're fucked.

offline corrupted-girl on 2003-05-30 21:52 [#00721638]
Points: 8469 Status: Regular

I dunno. I personally don't seperate from my friends if they
decide to all sit in the smoking section... but not too many
of them smoke so it ain't really an issue.

Anyways, um.. I dunno. I just believe that people should
have both options. Since it's legal to smoke....

offline corrupted-girl on 2003-05-30 21:55 [#00721642]
Points: 8469 Status: Regular

I wouldn't cvall it isolation...

Why not just step outside for a smoke.. it takes 5 minutes..
it';s not liek you're smoking 24/7... unless you're a crazy
chain smoker.. but .. you know? I mean it's you that wants
to smoke so you should deal with the consequences.

offline corrupted-girl on 2003-05-30 21:58 [#00721645]
Points: 8469 Status: Regular

Oh and im not winded up.. (haha winded?)... maybe it's your
avatar.. it's very comforting.. I know I probably shouldn't
change my reactions based on avatars.. but damnit.. it's
automatic. Is that you if not who is it?

offline phiz from Liverpool (United Kingdom) on 2003-05-30 22:00 [#00721646]

i can understand where your comin from though, because i
know that i do actually fuckin stink when a nonsmoker
smells you, as you say, i'm a smoker so i'm oblivious to the
smells and stink that i give off, but you can choose not to
be there so... the option is there but it seems a bit shit
to me.
I just hate the idea of seperating people

I understand. I don't know how it can be solved though... it
seems more and more places are banning smoking (so I win
muahahaha... JK).

Smoking is really really good though... too bad it's so bad
for you.

smoking might become another underground drug though, i mean
its been a government approved drug for so long and its
generated alot of money for people that to get rid of it
from the public consumption would create big problems.

It's a known fact that second hand smoke is more effective
...... so what close off those who are smoking ciggs as if
they "we" are weird freaks.

but then if people "I' smoke weed in a restaurant then you
"them" wont be affected. Why? because marijuana smoke is not
effective to those who arent smoking.

No smoking in bars?? how can smokers "I" not be able to
smoke while drinking?? this is insane!! so we have to wait
to leave to smoke which causes those "me" to not want to
stay long at a restaurant.

What is there to be done you ask...well absolutely nothing.

they have a really good system in my town at least. instead
of forcing cafes and resturaunts to become smoke free, it's
an option, but if they choose to ban smoking they get either
a tax deduction or just a bonus of some kind.

Coffeshops:

Siberie - just round the corner from the Doors and Rokerij
coffeshops, quieter and a nice selection of buds.

Speakeasy - cheapest weed anywhere in the center, tiny place
but worth it.

Abraxas - All your weed eating needs, lovely weed cakes and
weed milkshakes.

A couple of tram stops:

Today - tram 24 to Centuurbaan, lovely buds at good prices.

De Bommel - tram 13 to Mecartorplein, some lovely buds, and
marvellous hash.

De Prijse - tram 1 to Surenameplein, cheap and lovely buds.

will try to think of some more, cant think off the top of my
head.
