Hillarious!!!!!
"Last night was my first Bjork gig and to say I was excited would be
putting it extremely mildly. Upon arrival we were told that a "DJ
Smorgface" or something similar would be playing from 7.30 til 8.30, and
Bjork would perform from 9 til 10.30. Instead, we were battered by an
incessant cacophany of screaming, swearing, white noise, machine gun fire
and what sounded like the inmates of a deranged monkeyhouse. Until 9.20,
with no respite and no damn let-up. I almost went mad from the noise,
people around me had coats over their heads and generally I think that we
were all very upset by the lack of a live band and simply by the sheer
crude violence of it.... /pixiepants14"

i've never been a fan of bjork but i salute her for having aphex as her supporting act.
on to her fans. what a bunch of narrow minded pussies. words fail me.
"As can be seen from many of the other reviews here Aphex Twin caused a lot of distress with two hours of what I can only desrcibe as audio torture.
Was the purpose of this act to make the audiance feel agressive and un-loved?
No matter how well Björk performed last night I woke up this morning feeling very angry and confused about what happened. I need to know what it was all about."

it wasn't all noise, some of the first stuff he played reminded me of Mira Calix and Angelo Badalamenti, its slowly got weirder with Jungle samples, later on the noise started, with screams and singing "do you like the way you look, do you like..." etc etc (don't remember much of the lyrics though).
Most of it was great though probably did drag on a bit for some people, I enjoyed it though and can't wait for the ep

aww bird is rhymin'..
anyway, i think RDJ was a bit rude to play whitehouse and other stuff before a bjork crowd. it's disrespectful. i'm not saying it's not good music.. some of my favorite artists were probably in that set. it just wasn't appropriate. he could've easily catered his set to that crowd and played melodic material. why he didn't is beyond me. how cruel.
but some aphex production on the new bjork album would be something else huh? :)

well one of the new bjork tracks was very noise inspired with distorted vocals and merged into pluto, it was one of the highlights of the concert, can't wait for her new album, i think its gonna be one of her best.

i might've too but put yourself in a non-noise fan's shoes.. especially most bjork fans ("sophisticated sissies").. RDJ was being a tad mean there no matter how much 5% of the audience liked it.
did they do the new bjork song where matmos use rubber bands? or one of the songs from the bjork.com previews?

i'm talking about his live gig, who said anything about making music to cater to people? richard did a DJ gig he could've easily catered to the audience; isn't that the point? why aggrivate when you can inspire or entertain? it just wasn't appropriate.

well, i wasn't there. But obviously björk chose him as the support act, and knew what to expect.
As for the fans.... well, from some of those reviews... i don't know what to say. I would've at least repected björks choice of support act, and not booed!
i'm a huge björk fan. I'd like to think also, that i like music, and music likes me.... yeah, maybe thats impudent... but anyways, woohooo!!!!!!!!

I think he would have played the same set for his own fans (us) , only difference is that 99% of us would have got an errection (the other 1% being female)
Why should he change his style just because he is playing for Björk fans?
Sounds like he was promoting Smojphace EP and maybe trying out some new stuff .

i don't know if bjork knew he'd play that kind of set. all of you know he has many different styles he uses when he dj's and plays live, so let's not act like AFX is some kind of noise artist. even though she personally enjoyed it, i doubt she was happy most of her fans hated it.
all i'm saying is that as a support act and as a veteran DJ and musician, richard should've been nicer to the audience. if he was there to promote he could've made thousands of new fans having played music that's more like the albums he's released. that's just one idea, many other things would've went over well.

what do you have against bjork fans? they're/we're good people, and believe it or not, have great taste in music. so what if they don't like noise or jungle?!
maybe i can try an analogy here.
if you were a guitarist and were paid $100 to entertain old folks, would you do a folk set or a death metal set? for the sake of this analogy, assume you're equally capable of both and enjoy doing both.

but that's different because Napalm Death never change their style, they're always metal. whereas you and i both know the variety of music richard has released AND dj'd live (ie: his selection of other people's music). i just find this disrespectful; i totally "get it" and maybe if i didn't like bjork so much i wouldn't mind. i mean if he were opening for n'sync this would fucking rock. but for a peer it's just kind of rude and snobbish for him to just say "fuck you all" and do a noise set. anyway, i respect your opinions too because i see what you all are saying and i agree on a fundamental level.
