how much should an 80gb drive cost? 120gb?
note: this is firewire external hard drives (eg: USB), not internal hard drives

I don't know, but I was looking at some the other day and I couldn't find any that went as high as 120gb :/ Bloody UK.

Do you need that much? you could get a 30GB ipod, that doubles up as an mp3 player as well???
i think from memory the 30GB ipod is around 400-500 $US ... though it is quite a pricey product (given the size and looks etc.), but that might give you a yard stick or some sort?
A friend of mine has a 60GB external firewire drive ... i'll ask him how much he paid.

It's a bazillion times cheaper to use an IDE hard drive with a slide-out tray.

If you know what you're doing :-)
If I wanted to be safe, I'd install Windows + apps on the new drive and copy my docs and mp3s and shit from the old one to the new one. That way you can always go back to the old one if the unthinkable happens.
