Can anyone suggest any software utilities that will deal
with this. A mates computer has so much crap installed on
it, and I remember it being discussed here sometime ago.

Thanks

If you want a more thorough, professional spybot detector
try:

Spybot - Search and Destroy

this is the one you want to use for Spyware, Ad-aware is for
slightly different stuff

I use both.......cover all your bases :-)

I don not know what the difference between ad-aware and
spybot is, but when I run spybot after ad-aware it still
finds some components.

there you go

spyware is more, as I understand it, bots or software
installed on your computer that does , like runs programs in
the back ground and shit

ad aware kills passive, but more cluttering stuff.

-----------
if that was a shit explanation, get both and read their help
files.......
