ok so i went in! :

this was my first rephlex night, and upon going in to buy
tickets, you could hear fuzzy vibrations which meant one
thing, aphex was on the decks!

i went down into the club (its kinda underground, literally)
and sure enough, on the decks was the man himself aphex. He
seemed exactly how i had imagined, wearing simple tracksuit
bottoms and a cheap tshirt, messing around with the
mixer....

i noticed he also had a *very* small Viao laptop running,
and a very small mixer alongside the big mixer. I tried to
look to see what programs he was runnning, but he had it
tilted into the corner!

after a load of fucked up granular sounds, a mental beat
started up, followed by a solid kick drum sound, and the
whole place was on fire.

he continued with this for 45mins, it was FUCKING IMMENSE.
ive read a lot of stuff about aphex etc, but the stuff he
was playing really did seem way ahead of its time, it was
the most fucked up sounds backed up with a mental rhythm
that was very dancable to! aphex really is the fucking
daddy~! this set was amazing! words cannot do justice.
People were going mad filming aphex and taking photos, and
at one point aphex clearly blinked for a few seconds due to
the bright flash of a camera. He seemed in a good mood
though.

after he had finished, he signalled a thumbs up to bug, who
was on the other side of the room with his ragga setup. Bug
started playing, and everyone started dancing around, apart
from the people around aphex (myself included) who stared at
him packing his equipment up! some guy kept taking photos,
and was told by security to stop it.

as the bug was playing, aphex sat on the floor, and on the
desk where the turntables where. people were chatting to him
openly, he was playing along with it. Some guy gave him a
demo on minidisc, which aphex carefully put into his bag.
Shit, i knew i should have bought mine along!!! oh well. I
didnt talk to aphex i was too scared.

i did talk to a lanky guy who was wearing a 'rephlex'
tshirt. he smiled at me, i

... i smiled back and stupidly said "do u work for
braindance", he looked confused and said "whats that
supposed to mean!?". I corrected myself saying rephlex, and
he told me he was an artist on rephlex, ed dmx. I quickly
tried to remmeber a ed dmx tune, and said to him "denki no
merodie", at which his face lit up and he grinned!

vibert came on and played some cheese, thats wen i left.

conclusion : it rocked!!!

ALSO: i looked at his decks to see the record he had been
playing that had really fucked up sounds, it was a yellow
label vinyl by 'hecker'

some of u guys must have seen me, i was the only south asian
(brown skinned!) person in the club!

probably the newest hecker 12" i think it's got the yellow

awesome! thanks for the review. i'll have to check out
hecker, i've been hearing good things. too bad you didn't
stick around for luke, though a lot of people don't share
his cheeky sense of humor (and thus wouldn't enjoy his
"cheese" sets). he's great tho.

i saw about 15mins of vibert, and it was just a bit kinda
cheesy and shit compared to what had gone before, i think it
was pretty clear to people the best had already gone...
sounds harsh, sorry vibert!! but not really my cup of tea.
his scratching was good though!

it wasnt really clear what the smojphace tracks were, there
was no clear 'ragga/techno' tune that he played...

'johnny jennkison' wasnt at this one... is he really pushers
brother? i thought ceephax acid crew was....

i also met a photographer from 'music' magazine, so loof out
for a review of the night in that mag, he seemed like a cool
guy, how do u post pics on here, only one of my pics turned
out ok on the night due to lack of flash!

your review of the show sounds as if you spent all night
gazing dreamily into aphex's eyes?
are you gay?
vibert played jungle stuff as well later it was really good
- maybe it';s his new tracks -
the highlight was the bug - with mc ras b - it was very
heavy lots of dub effects and overlaod - then half way
through warrior queen - this litttle jamaican mc who sings
very dirty lyrics stepped up to the mic and got the crowd
really going for a couple of songs .
the whole thing was very very lound and very bassy - the
taps on the spirit bottles were revolving on their own !
it was intensde and aphex's set of
electroacoustic/noise/ambience business showed the systen
off to it's fullest extent creating a maelstrom of bass and
noise until half way through he dropped in some beats.
Luke vibert slowed things down and brought the intenstity
down after the bug with some old school electro into
jungleand back again into some wicked disco -
great night

i think one of the reasons rdj is not releasing new stuff
(as much as we would want him to), because this live
performances (djing) take lot of his time...i mean to find
all that music and to play it in the same set or to mix
different tunes the way he does...its whether he's a genius
or he spends 90% of his time preparing for this gigs

astrid-gil-botn, no im not gay i did get a boner when i saw
aphex though...

no not really. it was just a bit weird seeing him standing
1m away from me, thats all, like the guy is a legend and
all, and there he was standing there grinning like a come to
daddy

nice to see people liked my review :-)

it WAS a mental night. it seemed half the people there were
in someway affiliated with rephlex, i was in the toilets and
these 2 guys were talking about a private party in bethnal
green, where 'tom, ed, rich and luke' will be going to or
something. it was all a bit surreal ya know.

im still awake (35th hour now)and arrived in germany

surreal describes it best,
especially the familiar atmosphere.
everybodys been very kind and though it had been a very
"advertised" party it looked like everybody just met there,
knowing each other.
they just made it for themselves.

its been weird to see richard rightaway,
first i thought he was soundchecking...
maybe he was for a minute.

i loved the bugs set and the jungle later on made me go
crazy!
the 2 songs before 54cymru beats got played reminded me of
afx, i thought it might have been smojphace at that moment,
but i dont know anything by now anymore.
my memory lacks and i couldnt see who was playing when,
cause i danced not in front of the corner where the mixers
and the laptop stood...

im gonna recap some more tomorrow if i still remember
anything.
i still know some funny anecdotes...

I was there! Real good night.

Aphex - heavy techno stuff with loads of aphects, a bit of
new ambience thrown in places near the end... and lots of
noise. Very intense and danceable. The Bug & Ras Bogle were
well heavy, very loud PA, real dancehall electro stuff.
Vibert played a sweet funk / jungle set. Good to see all
this in a small venue with a decent soundsystem.

ijonspeches - whoaa sounds like you had a looong (but good)
night!!!

id like to be at the seed party tonight...

the trip was a good thing, im gonna do it again,
but then i would stay longer, find out about some more
parties in advance and secure me a sleeping place for free.
30 pounds is too much a night to stay...
13 p for the train (one-way) from stansted is also
incredible...

i met a woman on the street while i ve been asking for a
bagel station, she said i could sleep in her bed for 20
pounds, she would take the couch then.
i reckon she was a prostitute though she didnt look like one
but there also was this guy with a dog (could have been the
sugar daddy). they guaranteed me i wouldnt get robbed. i
passed by.

AFX. In any case, all the jungle/hardcore he played was
awesome. If anyone knows tracknames, please post.
