fav 1-hit wonder

offline manticore from London (ON) (Canada) on 2003-05-20 20:10 [#00707476]

remember the good ol' days when it was no crime to be
bustin' a move to MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice and Michael
Jackson was the coolest thing going on MTV?!? ah, late
80s/early 90s - those were the times!

so the question being, who is your fav 1-hit wonder from
back in the day? just because i can't think of anything
better, here's mine: Kriss Kross: "Jump"

i don't remember things from back in the day... but now it'd
have to be tatu 'all the things she said'.. im sure that's a
one hit wonder.. not sure what's going on with them though,
so i dunno.

heh! i used to watch YO! MTV Raps day in & day out back in
the day! 120 Minutes (The British MTV alt-music show, on
every Sunday evening) was kick-arse too! that's how i found
out about people like Sonic Youth!

but i think you're wrong about TATU - for as long as they're
not saggy & wrinkly, there will always be a (predominantly
raging-hormones male) audience wanting to see pseudo-lesbian
coed schoolgirls making out on stage.

the original russian version of "not gonna get us" was a
huge hit in Europe when i was down there last summer, so
this whole thing ain't nothing new for me. I thought that
track was pretty cool, what with being really harsh &
drum&bassy (that's the club mix i'm talking about), and the
most unlikely hit, yet people were totally getting down to
it!

one song.
it's a different kinda sex appeal.. i mean it's not like
american britney spears.. it's like real. and i like it. i
dunno.

i think britney will stage an all-out lesbian comback just
so that she can cash in on the whole TATU fad!

MILLI VANILLI - blame it on the rain!

i actually did a glitch butchering of a milli vanilli
megamix i downloaded specifically for that purpose (it had
all the big hits mixed into one track)

hear it here:
um, girl yeah! uh uh!

by the by, that tune is entirely based on milli vanilli
samples! =)

haha! Bros.! i remember those fellas! that's some classic
late 80s schlock, yo!
there was also Jason Donovan (did a duet with Kylie,
actually - they used to date for a while, and both used to
be actors on the Aussie soap opera "Neighbours" - i read too
much 'Q magazine'!)

i guess you'd have to have been living in europe in the late
80s/early 90s for this, but does anyone remember when David
Hasselhoff (of Baywatch fame) was rockin' the German pop
charts?!? hence the infamous - hasselhoff big in germany
skit on Saturday Night Live back in the day.

I really like the song Nova Heart by the Spoons... :)

although, they're not really a ONE hit wonder... they did
have another song called Romantic Traffic... :)

well, most people might not know them... apparently they
were from Canada...

Musicmusic here in Canada used to do what they called 80's
weekends sometimes... they were awesome! Nothing but 80's
music for the whole weekend... they haven't done anything
like that in ages though...

uh oh! LOVERBOY - working for the weekend!

is it any wonder that the reviews for Manitoba's "up in
flames" said things like: "the best thing to come out of
canada since ... ever"?!?

south park (the movie): "the canadian government has
apologized on several occasions for bryan adams"

other things to come out of canada: celine dion, avril
lavigne, alanis morrisette, kittie, sum 41 - thank you for
making me ashamed of being canadian!

i think its from around 1986 and it featured in the program.
they wrote a script around it. they performed it in some
competition and all their synthesizers broke down! but it
went top 20 i think. paul medford was calvin, letitia dean
being sharon watts.

Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag is the SINGLE LARGEST
CONCENTRATION OF GAY OBSERVABLE IN THE UNIVERSE. IT'S LIKE
A CLASS 5 STAR OF SWIRLING GAYNESS EXPLODED INTO A FLAMING
HOMOSEXUAL SUPERNOVA AND COLLAPSED INTO A BLACK HOLE OF
INFINITE GAYNESS.

Hold on little girl
show me what he's done to you
Stand up little girl
A broken heart can't be that bad
when it's through, it's through
Fate will twist the both of you
So come on baby come on over
Let me be the one to show you
CHORUS:
I'm the one who wants to be with you
Deep inside I hope you feel it too
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you
Build up your confidence
So you can be on top for once
Wake up who cares about
Little boys that talk too much
I seen it all go down
Your game of love was all rained out
So come on baby, come on over
Let me be the one to hold you
CHORUS
Why be alone when we can be together baby
You can make my life worthwile
and I can make you start to smile

A one-hit wonder is an act that has one single in the top
75, and that's it. Afterwards, nothing.
